How do I say this sentence?

    "My favourite subject is maths."
    I have been trying to work this one out for ages but keep tripping over the fact that 'matemáticas' is plural. I'm stuck between:
    Mi asignatura favorita es las matemáticas
    or
    Mis asignaturas favoritas son las matemáticas
    or some amalgamation of the two. Help!
