Alternative shoe to the lunarglide 2

I bought the lunarglide 3s as a replacement for the 2s. The 2s were a great shoe and I got 700 miles out of them.
The 3s are very disappointing. Very heavy/bulky and they feel very loose around my ankles.
Could anyone suggest another option. I was thinking maybe the nike lunar elite 2s or DS trainers but I havn't really got a clue.
    Thanks

    Hi Woddle,

I've had a few pairs of 2's and as soon as tried the 3's they went straight back to the shop.... I have a pair of DS Trainers which I really like but tend to use them for shorter distances, I used LG 2's for three Marathons but I'm not sure if the DS Trainers would stand up to 26 miles for me anyway. LG 2's are still available and I think one of the lads got them online for maybe €40 recently, Vagga I think.

    Digger

    Cheers digger.
I've tried numerous places online and there are still a few knocking about but not in my size.
That's interesting what you say about the DS trainers being OK for shorter runs but not so much the long ones. I've 2 pairs of shoes that already fit that bill so I guess I'm just going to have to keep looking.

Anuone any thoughts on the lunar elite?

Take a look at the Lunar Fly's... Not sure if they have the same dynamic support but I saw them in Elverys I think for about €70.... Meno has a pair.

Yep, I've been telling woddle this :D
They have dynamic support too, a little lighter than the glides but plenty of cushioning. I got them for €50 in JJBs

I am 99.99% sure they are 50 now in elverys too, although the website says 75. If I get in there today I'll verify

I've 2 pairs of the lunarfly 2 on the go. Wanted something a tad lighter than the Pegasus. They are that and very comfortable.

However, they are a slightly narrow fit (normally with asics GT21xx or Pegasus I have to pull the laces tight the whole way down the shoe, with the lunarfly 2 I have to actually loosen them the whole way down. Now once they're tied to suit me it's fine, you wouldn't notice anything but maybe if you had a wider foot it would be an issue).

Although they are very comfortable, I think I'll go back to an air based shoe. The lunarflys are foam based rather than air and I just find this slightly less comfortable - i.e. I'd be more aware of the ground the first few steps whereas with Pegasus it's more like walking on air. So for me, for an every day running shoe, I'm finding the lunarfly 2 fine, but just have a gut feeling that I prefer Pegasus. Hopefully Pegs will continue to get lighter (currently 10.8 ounces compared to lunarfly 2 being 9.8), in any case the lunar series seem to be getting heavier.

And more supportive unfortunately  I have a funny feeling that the lunarfly 3 will go the way of the lunarglide3s and become a support shoe with a massive wedge in the midsole.
Funny you say about the Air based shoes pegasus Larry. I am quite the opposite I wore pegasus initially and when i moved to the Glides I felt like I was walking on Air. I can't wear the pegasus now, they feel about as responsive as bricks.

OK. I've a pair of 10 only worn a couple of times I would have gladly given to you if the size was right.

Woddle if you want a pair of lunarglide 1s, I have a few pair of size 8s I am unlikley to use (bought loads a few years ago when there was a sale in TKMaxx).

apparently lunarfly 3 is pretty similar to old model, but slightly (.8 oz on men's us 9) heavier.

Well I won't be getting them if they keep adding features and making them heavier. I don't understand why Nike keep making their shoes more and more complicated (and heavy). Most other brands are doing their best to lower the weight of their shoes.

So they can introduce new lighter models that cost more. Always amuses (or bemuses) me to see that less shoe costs more money.

yeah a comment on that review link mentions some new nike shoe coming out called Lunarspeed Lite - probably will be more expensive. Nike look at their whole range and figure out what segments will make the most cash. May have decided that lunarfly was cannibalising a potentially lucrative segment - i.e. light neutral everyday trainer runner so are changing the lunarfly 3 to move it out of that area....

heel to toe drop seems to have been reduced tho which is a good thing.

I don't really care much about that tbh I just want a lightweight neutral runner with a bit of cushioning on the forefoot. I've long since moved onto other brands (saucony kinvara, adidas adizero etc) so I think the current lunarlfys might be the last nike trainers I buy.

Interesting.. I think we have the same feet :D

I used Nike Lunarglide 2's for most of last year, tried the Lunarglide 3's in store but didn't feel good.
Gambled on Adidas Adizero Boston 2's and they worked a treat. Used them the last while and loved the lightness as well as enough cushion.
Now those are discontinued, and the Boston 3 may be the same but I said I'd try the Saucony Kinvara's to see, sure enough I'm on the Kinvara 2's and really like them so far - only a week or so old.

My current thoughts are get another pair of Kinvara's, possibly 2 as I really like them. I hate it when runners are discontinued or colour changes etc so want to stick to something that suits and I like.

What are your reason for moving away from the Kinvara's? or not getting the Boston 3's?

I'd see them both as being a lightweight neutral runner with forefoot cushioning. Did they not quite suit you?

Kinvaras are my favourite runner at the moment and I recently got second pair. I'll be doing all my long races in them (including marathons and ultras) for the next while and I am ahppy to use them for any type of training run.

I haven't moved away from them I just rotate them with other shoes. I will happily pick up any lightweight neutral shoe I see on offer and throw it into the weekly rotation. I currently wear:
Kinvaras (2 pair, the first pair are nearly done)
Adizero Ace (got them for €40- they're my second favourites at the moment)
Brooks Green silence (got them for £30)
    Lunarflys (€50)
Puma Faas 300 (€20 in jjb )
Nike Lunarracers (I use these for races up to HM)

I also have a few pair of Lunarglide 2s left that are nearly worn out so I just use these for mucky runs. I got a pair of Lunarglide 3s cos they were on sale for €40 but they are a completely different shoe to the 2s so they are just sitting in the cupboard.

    I have:-

Lunarglide 2 - nearly worn out - good cushioned shoe
Kinvara 1 - 200 miles on them - great shoe but no stability and my left foot pronates a bit so only up to 1/2 marathon for me
Lunarfly 2 - just got them - bit hard compared to glides on initial impressions but will grow into them I would say
Green Silence - too hard for long runs imo and have a weird running style when using them so only use them for shortish runs
