PSN name change to SEN

I just got an email from playstation eu.
Anyone else get this.




On February 8, 2012, “PlayStation®Network accounts” will be renamed “Sony Entertainment Network accounts” or “SEN accounts”. This change will take effect at the same time as upcoming PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®Vita* system software updates. After you update the system software on your PS3™ or PS Vita , you will notice that “PlayStation®Network accounts” have been renamed “Sony Entertainment Network accounts”. This change will not affect the naming of “PlayStation®Network accounts” when viewed on a PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) system. *PlayStation®Vita will launch from 22nd February, 2012.

This account change is a change in name only. You do not have to do anything and your username and password will not change.

This transition is based on Sony’s goal to enhance its unique digital entertainment offering. As a series of these activities Sony started last September, PlayStation®Network will be aligned with “Sony Entertainment Network”. This helps us get closer to our goal of establishing a global comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account.

Your Sony Entertainment Network account also enables use of Sony’s non-game services such as Music Unlimited, Video Store of PlayStation®Store and PlayMemories Online (previously called Personal Space) across a variety of network-connected devices.

I think it's just using your now SEN account to log on to PSN, rather than using your PSN account to get onto PSN.

Hmm, i was getting that they were changing PSN to SEN from it all. Different articles are reading into it in different ways it seems.

Lots of non-PS devices are and will be connected (TV's mainly) so better to rename it now

I got a Japanese PSN email about it, and translated it. First thought was 'that's a stupid name. Hope they don't change it over here'.

I seriously doubt it, the Playstation brand is still pretty huge.

I doubt it. Brand names sell. If they released the PS4 and a machine infinitely superior to the PS4 with a different brand name right now, the PS4 would sell better.

Like others have said re: the console name

They would be fools to drop "Playstation".. it has massive (read: HUMUNGOUS) brand recognition worldwide.. it would be akin to Apple changing the name of the Iphone

SEN is nothing to get worried OR excited about.. its just Sony streamlining for future ease of access.. one account that people can use that ties in to every other relevant device/service

So presumably that means PSN Cards will now be called SEN Cards, yeah? It's hard enough to put together a birthday wish-list without having something you don't know the name of

This news represents a massive change to the face of videogaming as we know it. It's a masterstroke of genius by Sony.

Looks like it's just your online handle that's changed. PSN is still PSN.
