Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

noticed a few ads on done deal lately for cattle that were to be sold in mart on a certain day.
Just wondering is this a new phenomenon?

I was quite tickled by this ad. Anyone know what they made?

Special sales or special lots to be sold in marts on certain days ahve been advertised in newspapers around here for the last 30 years. I've seen these types of ads on donedeal since it was set up.

Its not really a new phenomenon. It just a ploy to get extra bidders around the ring to try to push up the price.

i put up my cattle on it and got 1 phone call and the caller went saturday and bought 4 of the heifers and he would not have been at the mart,so worth the 3 yoyos.

ya i think the price is a big factor in the success of donedeal, you can put up all the pics you want and videos for €3, a pic and a few words costs about 40 euro in the journal

ye , we bump up my husbands ad everyday for transporting machinery, great job, dd really had given the autotrader and the farmers journal a kick in the butt:D

ya can never understand why they dont look after that site, its never updated and as you say doesnt even work right anymore, they had it all to themselves before donedeal in terms of machinery

Simplicity is the other big advantage. You don't need an IT qualification to place an add or search for one.
I know lots of fellas that got to know how to switch on a computer just so they could look at DD.
We've sold stock on it and the phone just rings off the hook with 90% genuine callers.
I'd guess that the motors and farming sections are the bigg earners for them.

ye, my husband is one of those people:p but then in his ad he has a picture of a digger , saying machinery transported, hes always getting calls if the digger is for sale! he just says read the ad!

    Ya,
Each time we've had adds up we've gotten texts offering 50% of the asking price for cash immediately " if your stuck for cash". Makes me mad, but thankfully most callers are genuine and we've never failed to sell.

If they were in Ross - lots of good stock there on Saturday and very strong prices!

Have sold a few bits and pieces on Donedeal now and got those timewasters with insulting offers too.

just found it a bit odd advertising cattle that are going to be sold in the ring regardless.... especially when there are lots of spealist sales those cattle would of fit into better.

I suppose I was really just fishing around to see if i could find out what sort of money those cattle made.

The more folks around that ring bidding, the better it is for the owner though. Mart gets paid either way once the lot sells, price don't matter to them.

It's an awful thief of time, isn't it, you just keep looking.

We have a neighbour who doesn't have time to talk to anyone since he got DoneDeal set up on a smartphone.

They call him Crocodile DoneDeal in the pub.

We have a "retired" neighbour who spends all his time on it too - turns it on at 8am and can still be looking at it at 12 at night. He looks at everything that goes up on it trying to seek out a bargain and make a few pound on it (not that he needs to). Last september he saw an ad for somewhere in Kildare who was giving away a horse. He drove to kildare with a jeep and trailer. Picked up the horse and brought him home, fed him for 3 weeks, paid for a horse passport for him and brought him to the October fair in Ballinasloe. He spent 2 days over there and eventually sold him for Eur280. He bragged about it in the pub for hours. Easiest money he ever made. He didn't realise that he spent over 500 on fuel, transport and the passport

    Its an addictive thing!

Am new to both Boards and dondeal but know from a few neighbours that it can be well worth it to advertise stock prior to a mart....amazing how many people check them out...and if it brings one more bidder to the mart your 3 euro is for nothing.looking at those heifirs I would say 1200 + for them at current trade.

It's always worth doing everything you can to sell stock, especially if they are top quality. People have been advertising stock that is heading to the mart in papers for years. You often find full dispersal sales of sucklers or freisan heifers advertised, it helps attract specialist buyers.

    Hi,

I found this 5 star Limousin Bull on Buy and Sell http://www.buyandsell.ie/search/for-sale/farming/leitrim/-/limousin-bull-2 seems a little dear at € 4,500 but has all the credentials. Can anyone tell me whether he is value for money or not ?
