Huge bill

    Our average bills since moving into our apartment over 11 months ago have been around 130 - 160. We just got our bill for Dec/Jan and its 351. Our average night units are always around 500 for 60 days. This bill they have jumped to 2448! We're quite shocked. There's no difference in our heat/usage. If anything it should be lower because we were out of the apartment for 2 weeks over Christmas with everything turned off.

    Could it be a fault in an appliance using up a lot of electricity? We have rang the helpline twice this evening but their advice was to get in an electrician and then come back to them.

    Where the previous bills estimates or actual readings? They should have an "e" beside them if they're estimates or a "c" if they're customer readings or an "a" if they're actual readings taken by a meter reader.

    There are a few reasons why a situation like this might arise. If the previous readings were estimates, it could be that the previous readings were underestimated and when the actual reading was taken it was higher than previous estimates, accounting for such a rise in the units used. It is unlikely that faulty household appliances are accounting for this rise.
