Hi. Have a 04 1.5l diesel Grand Scenic which I absolutely love. Unfortunately it has started to drink oil in the last 6-9 months. It will take 1-1.5l of oil for every fill of diesel. I have had it to a mechanic whom I trust and who knows these cars and he took apart the turbo ad advised its not that. There is no oil dripping on the driveway but there is a smell and haze from the exhaust. I'm told my options are new/replacement engine or refurbish the current one. Anyone know how much eiter option should cost and if refurbished does that come with any guarantee? I have an NCT coming up in Mayand fear it will fail on emmissions. :( Thanks!

Your best option is to get an exchange re-conditioned engine. That will have a guarantee of some sort and you know it works. A cheaper option will be to get a second hand engine froma scrappy, but it's a gamble - there is a chance that it could be as screwed as the one you have.

Avoid having your garage rebuild your own engine. It will take too long, they will rush it and they generally are not experts at rebuiling engines - thats best left to a specialist if you want to maximise reliability. Anyway most garages don't have the gear for reboring cylinders and such as it's a specialist trade in itself.
