Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Football Association can confirm that Fabio Capello has today resigned as England Manager.

This follows a meeting involving FA Chairman David Bernstein, FA General Secretary Alex Horne and Fabio Capello at Wembley Stadium.

The discussions focused on The FA Board’s decision to remove the England team captaincy from John Terry, and Fabio Capello’s response through an Italian broadcast interview.

In a meeting for over an hour, Fabio’s resignation was accepted and he will leave the post of England Manager with immediate effect.

David Bernstein said: “I would like to stress that during today’s meeting and throughout his time as England Manager, Fabio has conducted himself in an extremely professional manner. We have accepted Fabio’s resignation, agreeing this is the right decision. We would like to thank Fabio for his work with the England team and wish him every success in the future.”

A media conference with David Bernstein and the Club England Management team will take place at Wembley on Thursday at 12 noon.

The FA will not be making any further comment until the media conference.

Fair play to him, the media's treatment of him has been frankly shocking throughout his tenure.

I wonder how the media will spin it when Harry fails with England in the Euros.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,559 ✭✭✭✭yabadabado

at least they have their excuse now when they don't win the competition.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,588 ✭✭✭daithijjj

Watch the wheel turn people. Redknapp now to be built up by media as the messiah and starting from the minute he walks in the door he will systematically be dismantled by the same people who build him up in tomorrow's papers.

Fair play to Capello, admire the guy to be honest, stuck to his guns and knows that team will do nothing imho.

    H Redknapp 8/15
    J Mourinho 9/1
    R Hodgson 11/1
    Alan Pardew 14/1
    M O'Neill 16/1
    A Wenger 16/1
    S Pearce 18/1
    G Hiddink 18/1
    C Ancelotti 20/1
Not much in the betting there.I suppose they will try to get Harry as part time until the end of the season and then make him permanent.
Hiddink is the only one of them not in a job at the moment.

Arry as England manager then, only if the FA pay him cash in hand though presumably.

Why can't Redknapp take the England job but also stay with Spurs till May .

As an Arsenal fan, if 'arry quits Spurs to take this on, I'm gonna crack up :D

Redknapp would be mad to walk out on Spurs now,he's doing a fantastic job there.
To walk out on them and into that thankless poison chalice of a job would be madness.

I don't think they should make a permanent appointment yet. Give it to someone for the Euros and search for a long-term successor afterwards. Redknapp would probably be the sensible choice for the Euros.

    Why has he resigned?

    Surely not after John Terry???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,416 ✭✭✭Jimmy Iovine

I know that 'Arry pretty much has the job in the bag but I'm genuinely considering applying for it. If anything it'll keep my mother happy for another week or two. She keeps nagging me about applying for jobs.

My FAI Kick Start 1 certificate will surely get me far in the process. Also I am able to read and write, which is another plus.

Harry to get the job, but to stay with Spurs too I'd say!!

Then he'll decide his future after the Euros.

The FA is a combination of the 'cribbers corner' in the most distasteful golf club you can imagine crossed with the most expensive kindergarten imaginable. Get a feel for the press, move on changing opinion, totally and completely spineless and its mirrored on the pitch for as long as ive been alive.

Can't they just appoint 'Arry or Mourinho in May,and have Stuart Pearce take the friendly in between then.

Capello resigned over John Terry losing the captaincy? I know he may have thought it was interference, but surely there's more important things to take such drastic action over? Must be more to this than meets the eye, to quit over John Terry's captaincy is daft.

I was always hoping we'd draw England in the group stages, felt they were there for the taking all along. That will be the case even more so now I'd say.
