Fair play to him sticking to his principles!

Capello's own fault for reinstating Terry as Captain. Did he ever even explain why he thought that was a good idea?

Can't they just appoint 'Arry or Mourinho in May,and have Stuart Pearce take the friendly in between then.

What exactly would be the point in having friendlies if that was done?

I'm sure it wasn't only because of the Terry episode in fairness.

Pearce would only be keeping the seat warm and doing what the new boss wants him to do

Fair play to him. Shown to be a man of principle. Least he won't have to embroil himself in what will be the now consistent tournament shambles from England.

    Proper order.

He was right to stick to his guns, the F.A should never of went over his head by stripping J.T of the captaincy.

Poison chalice anyway, if i was Harry i would be in no rush to take the job on.

Capello resigned over John Terry losing the captaincy? I know he may have thought it was interference, but surely there's more important things to take such drastic action over? Must be more to this than meets the eye, to quit over John Terry's captaincy is daft.
    Pretty funny though...

and the England circus rolls on:D

What a joke. What other nation gives a toss about captaincy?

If he'd be doing what the boss wants done then why not just let the boss do it in the first place? If a player can play for club and country then why can't a manager manage club and country?

I would imagine the whole speculation over his job and Harry being eyed up as his replacement didn't exactly help.

Alan Pardrew for England (maybe that'll stop the Magpies!)

I say fair play to Capello for sticking to his guns.

In my view he has been completely undermined for a long time in his role as manager. Not just the FA going over his head on this but also the manner in which they dealt with the issue of his successor and the media's usual ridiculous OTT behaviour.

He was in a lose-lose situation going into the tournament. The Terry saga would have run and run, the media would have constantly queried him over Terry, should he go etc. Then there's the issue of Ferdinand going, Rooney's suspension, who should take over after the tournament...

It was no longer about the football.

England are their own worst enemies. This is another chapter in a soap opera that their media, regardless of what it claims, delights in propagating.

Get ready for new levels of insufferable coverage about 'Arry and don't be surprised to hear this question mentioned at a press conference very shortly...

'Jose, would you be interested in the England job?'

Capello is well shot of all this. Brilliant manager who they never respected or appreciated.

That would never work whatever new manager takes over would need time to get his own ideas across and to find the players best suited to what he wants throwing him in at the deep end for the euros would be a disaster really. Actually Yeh on second thoughts I hope that's what they do :D

Heres hoping it Arry and Rosie :D

It'd probably turn it into a 7 day job, not ideal especially at his age.

I'm not sure to be honest. I can't see Harry walking away before the season ends.

A player doesn't have to go scout games though

What price would you get for England to win the Euros with Pearce in charge ?

    All pressures off .

It has to be the worst job in the world to have, even at the start of Capello's reign he promised to pick players on form and that the 'big name' players would not be picked on past performances.

It doesn't take long for the media to affect you though as Capello has found out, and towards the end of his tenure he was already the manager he would not have wanted to become.

He will be delighted to be out of there before the travelling circus goes to Poland\Ukraine.

The English media thrive on building people up just to bring them down.

It will all happen again, it is why Clough was never England manager. Redknapp is the perfect next candidate, the only one I can think of who could break the mould so to speak would be Mourinho, and I'd like to think he'd have a bit more sense.

Ferguson was spot on with what he said, the manager is number 1, if it is true that Capello was never consulted about the Terry thing then it is un professionalism of the highest order.

I think the real reason will be revealed as the fact that he did not want to have to choose a captain out of what remained!!

I think the FA could struggle to find a manager, why would any manager with a brain want to take the England job, everything about it stinks of BS,even when England won game Capello was still doing something wrong the man couldnt win,so fair play to him for packing it in,Englands loss imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,185 ✭✭✭Cypher_sounds

Capello knows himself he can't win the euros with those prima donna's anyway, and going through that tournament as their gaffer is really not worth the hassle.

Hiddink as a replacement? Could do worse.

Yes they'll probably end up having to give it to a man who can't text, doesn't know how to use the internet, fax machine or bank account. :D

they obviously can win the euros same way ireland could win it. they always have a good chance, their players are not the best but their good enough to always be one of teams who could turn it on and have a real chance with luck/better teams not performing to max etc.

Capello had the best win percentage of any permanent England manager. Gonna be very hard to replace.

Don't agree with this at all, Ireland have a much poorer squad/team than compared to what England have available. On paper England have some very good individual players and a really strong squad, the problem is there's too many primadonnas in the England team and they have never played as a proper team in recent times(in fairness during the qualification rounds they were very solid) and Ireland play as a team with inferior players.

If England played as a team, worked super hard and had some luck they would have some chance, where as Ireland will fight hard each game but ultimately be knocked out by a stronger team.

Redknapp has quite the decision to make now. Abandon an extremely exciting project at Spurs where he is adored. Or take on the challenge of his dream job. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the FA's first choice so it will be his decision. It'll be interesting to see what he does.

Won't the FA wait until the Summer for him - or even appoint him in a part-time role until May ?

the guy said they have no chance of course they have a chance their in the final 16 teams, just like ireland have a chance, wasn't comparing ireland and englands talent pool. their team is good, but performing at their max they still aren't as good as some of the other teams so theyll need luck and the better sides to not perform as well as they can.

I'd assume they'll offer it to him straight away and thus he has a decision to make. I can't see Spurs allowing Redknapp to do both jobs when they're still in with a slight chance of winning the title and looking to cement a Champions League spot.

I've always liked Capello. In my opinion he was never given a proper go for three reasons:

    1. Didn't kiss the ass of spoilt English footballers with limited ability
    2. The hacks didn't get could copy from him
    3. Never accepted by fans because he's not English

What is so annoying about this is that once again the lack of ability of Englands players will be masked by so many clichés about squad harmony and the likes.

YOUR TEAM IS GOOD, BUT NOT THAT GOOD!

Then when it suits they play the underdog card like playing Portugal(COUNTRY OF 50 MILLION VS COUNTRY OF 10 MILLION)
