Is it too early for a glass of vino?

Well I'm drinking a beer while painting the utility room so no! Definitely not too early :p I deserve this beer, I had a stressful
cake related incident but people are sick of hearing about cake
afternoon at work so I earned it so I did. And I did lots of painting, very productive day, we're getting new carpet, tiles and vinyl flooring on Monday, yay!! And I'm getting a massage on Monday in a nearby Spa, and getting my haircut on Tuesday....is this what amounts to birthday treats when you're a grown up?

But all you'd have to do is see if they're posting elsewhere on boards, no?

Only if they stop posting here in this thread.

I'd be nice to know if they intended to close their account that they were ok.

I won't name names; but in feedback a while ago, there was someone who suddenly closed his account, raising the concern as to whether he was ok or not.

He did later come back to express that he was just fine but had other things in his life and didn't have time for boards anymore.

I think that a brief explanation (or even just 'bye') isn't actually bad. And is (on balance) something that I support.

Pretty much. You left out when you're renting the bouncy castle though....

Noooooooooooooo, please don't start censoring or putting in spoiler tags in part of your post because you think people aren't interested. Its a rocky road* doing that...

*Heehee accidental pun, considering the topic at hand.

I don't get goodbye threads either - though I did post a thread when I was taking time off boards a while ago, but that's just because I was a mod then and they would have had to find someone to replace me. Otherwise, I wouldn't have.

    Boards isn't real life.

OK folks can we refrain from focusing on those that left please. It was their personal decision and they're not around to defend it. Plus it tends to go around in circles. Plus it's hardly on topic. Thanks all

I just got a bit paranoid about the "this thread has changed" posts, since I've only been around since the start of V3 and felt left out/confused/somehow to blame for people not liking the thread anymore. :(

I'm not sure what a just emotions thread means.. people just posting things like "I'm quite pensive today" or "Feeling angry earlier. Now less angry."
I'll have to dig through the old threads and see what the thread was like in the old days. :)

A program which blocks certain websites (either specifically named ones or generally explicit ones). Typically installed by a parent so that a child can safely use the internet at a young age and not end up seeing something that they shouldn't.

As a long time bulletin boards user throughout the years on various different websites, it is imo practically impossible not to create a "clique" when using this medium, because there will always be people that devote more time to posting, divulge more information about others and generally use it more.

This makes it very daunting for new users as the "power-users" are seen as dominant, and the newbies seem to get drowned out. Then that leads to frustration and eventually anger. Also, no more than in real life, groups tend to have common interests, and when this doesn't sit well with a sub group, discention and mutiny occur. Or the inevitable "oh why don't you like me I'm ever so important" declaration.

At the end of it all, this is not real life. The keyboard creates a barrier between us all, creating a false sense of familliarity. I happen to love that false sense, but to take it all too seriously and lose sleep over it is to forget what we're doing. Writing down an edited version of reality for others to view.

Heck, I'm a total n00b here. I don't even think I even introduced myself (how rude). I can see the clique here, but I say fair play to all the people who put the time and effort into creating it, in fairness, how long does it take for a clique to become a community? And sure isn't that what social media is all about!! I mean, the definition of clique doesn't have to have negative connotations, it's:
a group of 2 to 12 (averaging 5 or 6) “persons who interact with each other more regularly and intensely than others in the same setting.
    Yup, sounds about right.

I hope that the positives continue to outweigh the negatives and a decent community can be formed here.:) As for me, I'm gonna keep posting about whatever p*sses me off or cheers me up (Cake, always cake), as long as the mods allow :D

So, er,*Ahem*, hi, I'm Edna btw.

Exactly what Carsinian Thau said, except I'm using 'leechblock' as a means of not being on Boards or Facebook for more than 15 minutes in an hour, rather than blocking the site entirely. It's got a timer feature so automatically logs me out if I go over. Not great for browsing and catching up on threads, but fabulous for my productivity :D

I had that for stopping me using facebook around exam time.

Got so desperate that I tampered with the config settings for firefox so that it wouldn't work and I could get back to fb. :o

I need a 'net nanny' to come into my room at night, confiscate my phone, take my laptop battery, put my kindle in a locked drawer then rob the lightbulbs and bolt the door shut.

... Hmmm.. I may have to discuss this plan with my mother.

Jessibelle - I haven't ordered from them before, but it says that the women's tees are small for their size so I ordered a large instead of a medium.

So far, just this tattoo - I'll likely add to it. What I might do later is mock up a design in Photoshop and put it on me there, just to give an idea as to what it might look like

add to it with more stars? a full arm of different items would look amazing but you would have to be fairly in love with them all or it doesnt have the full effect.

you have very toned arms btw....just thought you should know that :D

Haha. Me and toned generally don't go together in the same sentence, but thank you. I really like where those stars are, because they barely get seen, even if I'm wearing a short-sleeved t-shirt - only when I'm stretching or reaching for something.

I stopped at five tattoos. It was a matter of stopping while I still could, otherwise I was going to end up like Kat Von D.

Very blurry & small pic of four of them. I love tattoos.

Possibly what I'd like is a few smaller filled in stars around the other two.

Or else, this was another design I was contemplating, but in black, and better drawn, of course :P

Yikes it took me so long to read everything I'd missed.. I had about 10 pages! Was a bit disappointed that the thread's vibe turned slightly bitchy for a time there and that we've lost 2 loungers. Hopefully they'll return in the future.

Anyway, I suppose I'd better get on with my post. Bear with me, I've had a lot to read, lots of messages for people. Here goes.

Seomra Mushie, I was really shocked reading about your Dad. Is he okay now? There really are some bad people out there. Also congratulations on getting the job! :D

The Lovely Muffin, I hope your Dad is okay. x

Any news from Ivy? I wonder did our honorary niece/nephew arrive yet? :)

pixiebean, congratulations on being made permanent! :D

Boney, what tattoo are you considering?

musical.x and Sephiroth_dude, I would just like to apologise for my swearing in earlier posts. :p

I'm a little bit sad today. My gran is going into the nursing home on Monday. Her house is like a meeting place for the whole family and it just won't be the same without her. I'm not sure I'll go to the house anymore. I saw her earlier and it was sad thinking that today was the last time I'd see her in her own house. I don't know how to feel. I went to SuperValu earlier and bought comfort food. I know I shouldn't have. :(

what does that drawing represent? it looks really familiar.
yeh its great that its kind of hidden. that way its not constantly in your face and its a talking point when people do get a glimpse of the stars.

The design is "Ohm" and the words in it come from Slaughterhouse Five, which is my favourite book ever.

    new_stars.jpg

That's somewhat like I was contemplating on getting, but obviously better drawn, the same colour (couldn't find any black star brushes on a quick search) and better positioned.

You're looking well tonight, bluewolf! Miaow!

I had to crop that tattoo pic cause it was taken during a very drunken Ann Summers party and I'm wearing only a bra and have a thong on over my jeans

Random things that make me laugh:

The way Boru sits; dutch ovens; making myself a beard or a Mohican out of bubbles when I'm in the bath; my sister saying "Grassy Arse" to Spanish waiters with a perfectly straight face; the "making up a dance" dance, particularly when mam does it; LolDogs.
