Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Green lanes or off roading in Dublin/Wicklow

Was wondering if anyone knows any good spots for this. Most of the forest tracks have a barrier across them. Was down in the Slieve Blooms and there was a good few you could drive down and even mountains you could drive up.
Anything like this in Dublin/Wicklow? I don't mean circuits with jumps and that, just forest track type things.

Whereabouts in the Slieve Bloom mountains were these tracks? I must have missed them last time we were there. Also what sort of tracks are we talking about, unpaved roads/dirt tracks or trails?

As for Wicklow, would love to hear about a few green lanes...

I don't know the slieve bloom area well. One track was up to the top of a mountain. It had a gate on it which is always open apparently. I didn't go up cos there was something happening there and a load of people with cars park at the entrance with hunting dogs. The track looked to be dirt with a bit of gravel on it. Access to a mast up there.
The other track was near Cadamstown, again I don't know the exact location, but it was much further down the mountains through a load of trees, then into open space. Think it was a track for the local farmer! I was just driving around not even looking for a track.

EDIT: Pretty sure this is the first one I was talking about: http://g.co/maps/23ewx
Surface doesn't look too bad in the picture actually

We found some good roads in Kerry of similar quality http://g.co/maps/vt3sm

I wonder if it's possible to get Ordinance Survey maps which mark the unpaved roads and roads unsuitable for traffic.

almost all ordinance maps would have some suitable tracks/roads marked. you're looking for the grey roads (generally dead end ones would have little or no traffic) some of these will be paved and may have a house at the end but others might be suitable. the tracks marked would be of more interest to yee id say, they're marked with black dashed lines and are quite often fairly up to date in forestry areas.

This is around 2 minutes from the door of my house. A whole maze of roads and loads off unpaved paths and such to explore.

I have just picked up a copy of the OSI Map for Wicklow. There looks like a good few tracks and such just south of Laragh - even the Google Street View car hasn't explored most of these places... interesting.
