Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

AI company wants to buy calves

    Hi All

We have a Holstein dairy herd at home and use AI.

Last week we got 3 phone calls from different AI companies enquiring about two bull calves born on the farm this year. They may be interested in purchasing the calves from us. They sent kits today for taking hair samples from the tail for geonomic testing.

Each company will pay €100 to keep the calf on the farm for up to 6 weeks while this testing etc is completed. After that, if they are still interested, they will negotiate a price depending on the EBI returned from the testing. The testing is done by ICBF.

It states on the letters recived today to only send one test per animal (to avoid wasting time and effort), thus my questions are:

    1) Should we heed the advice to only send one sample per animal thus limiting us to that company?
2)If we are going with one company over the others, is it better to send to a company with the lowest EBI scores in their catalogue, i.e would they be more likely to buy our calves?

    Thanks

Do the genotyping yourself thru icbf..if one company does it for you they have access to the figures first which may suppress price if a really good bull

they have to give you the results before an offer- you can contact any company with said results to recieve other offers
