Legalisation of documetns in Ireland - procedure

    Hi,

    I hope someone can help me. I am looking for some clarification in relation to the legalisation process in Ireland.

    According to the Faulty of Notaries website and as per my understanding the legalisation procedure still applies for non-Hague Convention countries and the procedure is listed as follows:
    1. Attestation by a Notary Public of the signature of a person to a formal document;
    2. The document is then produced to the Registrar of the Supreme Court for the purpose of having the Notary’s signature and official seal verified;
    3. The document is then produced at the Consular Section of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Dublin for the purpose of having the signature of the Supreme Court Registrar verified; and
    4. Finally, the document is produced to the diplomatic or consular representative in Dublin (or London) of the foreign country in which it is intended the document shall be produced for the purpose of having the Irish Consular Officer’s signature legalised.

    My question arises in relation to step 2. Is this still a requirement or can this step be skipped?
    As per my colleagues previous experience they have never heard of documents for non-Hague Convention countries going to the Supreme Court Registrar and I have been asked to look into it and cannot find anything!

    HELP!
