Over 400 million TV viewers worldwide were reached by 2011 ISSF Shooting competition footage. “Encouraged to continue on this path.” ISSF Vice President Gary Anderson said.

A worldwide audience of 400 millions viewers watched Shooting Sport on TV, through the 2011 season. That’s the impressive figure that emerged from the TV Distribution Report that the International Shooting Sport Federation received at the conclusion of the 2011 ISSF World Cup Series.

The ISSF, following the TV production and distribution strategy inaugurated at the 2010 World Championships in all events in Munich – the first Quota competition for the 2012 Olympic Games – produced video footage of seven 2011 ISSF World Cup Stages, two World Cup Finals and of the 2011 Shotgun World Championship, distributing news, lives and highlights via EBU network.

About 150 TV station from all around the world used ISSF TV footage, which produced more than 180 hours of Rifle, Pistol and Shotgun events.

The total measured and estimated worldwide audience exceeded 400 millions spectators, and footage of the ISSF World Cup Series was made available to a potential audience of more then 2 billion of people.

“Over 400 millions viewers shows us that shooting - and the ISSF World Cup Series – is reaching a worldwide audience and has a great potential.” The ISSF Vice President, US two-time rifle shooting Olympic Champion Gary Anderson commented.

“We are happy about this numbers, and we are encouraged to continue on this path. We are now looking forward to improve these figures, in 2012.”

ISSF World Cup footage was also made available to the shooting sport aficionados with tailor made products over YouTube – in the context of the SportAccord Sport Hub. More than one million playbacks were recorded during the season on the ISSF YouTube Channel, where shooting fans were able to access all the 2011 ISSF World Cup final rounds from the first to the last shot, as well as exclusive interviews with medallists and protagonists, and 3-minute highlights of each competitions.

“These data are promising. The investment the ISSF made in TV production and distribution is paying off.” The ISSF Secretary General Franz Schreiber said.

“We will continue with our communication strategy, in order to improve the visibility of our sport on a worldwide level.”

That's very encouraging, but how much of that was shown on RTE?
