One of the guys I play online with is with Sky in the UK. He reckons your Internet Provider can set your profile so it maximises online gaming. It may reduce the d/l speed but also drops the ping. Can one of the eircom reps let me know if this is possible?

I don't definately want to change anything 'cos it works ok at present but my connection is not as good as some of the people I play with.

    Hi gimli2112,

Thanks for posting on the eircom Forum - Boards.ie

I am not absolutely sure what you mean by changing the profile. Certainly Broadband Support can lower or increase your broadband speed accrording to maximum and minimum capacity. Mostly, they will do this to improve broadband connectivity or if they need you to test your connection - if you're having problems connecting. Sometimes they will lower the speed profile slightly to improve the overall broadband throughput and ping rate; especially useful for Gaming.

You should however contact your Games Console vendor /manufacturer first to find out their reqirements for their equipment. Most of these 3rd party Game providers require you to have atleast a 3Mb broadband connection, in order to use their game(s) over the Internet (or with their kit).

Let me know if I can help you further. If you need to contact Technical Support dirctly :

    Broadband Technical Support : 1890 260260 (locall); Hours : 08:00 - 22:00 (7 days).
Please retain your case id /reference from Technical Support, as this will speed up your call and help if you need to follow this up.

    Kind regards,
    Ant

Some ISPs will turn off interleaving to increase pings. If you have a good line that's fine, if not it isn't ideal.

i think most ISPs have the BB profiles set to low interleaving anyway.

one good way to get better ping is to skip the wireless connection,go ethernet and buy a decent modem
