One sided Toast

Just wondering if I'm the only one :P

I regularly have toast in the morning but I put 2 slices into one slot, resulting in a well toasted side on both slices and untoasted on the other. God I love it. Not really sure why but the combination is lovely. Putting the butter on either side is great. Put it on the untoasted side, the butter melts anyway. It's a bit of a nostalgic feeling though when I holidayed in Wexford as a kid. The grill would only toast one side so I always had it like that instead of waiting for the other side to toast. Wexford toast we call it :P

I couldn't fit two slices of bread into the same slot of my toaster.

What I sometimes do is put the bread in until it is just starting to go brown, take it out and slice the bread into 2. Put it back into the toaster for a minute with the 2 toasted outsides facing each other and the newly exposed middle facing the heat and you end up with really thin crispy toast. It's not easy to butter but your knife should be warm from cutting the toast and will glide through the butter. It's really yum :D

I grew up in the 80's and we didn't have the luxury of a toaster.. so grilled toast on one side was the norm and I still love it done that way...

Don't knock it til you've tried it..

    Nom!!

i dont know what he's saying, but i like this idea for one sided toast

Love one sided toast, tbh I'm a bit of a toast expert as when I was younger I used to eat about 8 or 9 slices of it every night for me supper (and 3 for me brekkie :D). Nearly ate me folks out of house n' home.

But it's best to mix it up, few weeks of both sides, then few weeks of one sided. Change your toppings to jam or marmalade, havit with tea for a while then coffee.

The main thing is to keep your toast experience 'fresh' by trying the different variations! :P

Are you an English man in New York?

I don't drink coffee I take tea my dear
I like my toast done on one side
And you can hear it in my accent when I talk

Nicest way to do toast is to spread it with low low (crap with all other spreads), very thin scrping of low low on it, then put it under the grill and take it out when there's little brown bits appearing but it's mostly yellow. It's crispy on top, soft on the bottom and delicious all over.

Can't get low low over here and I don't have a grill in my house now :(

I'm always looking for new toast experiments.

Edit; d'oh! chuck stone got there before me :D

I think it's the contrasting textures that make it so great. Lovely and soft on one side and crunchy on the other.

Never thought about two slices in the toaster at once. Must give it a shot.

Used to have it like that when I was younger and too lazy to wait to toast it on the other side in the grill. From what I remember it was lovely so will give it a go this evening.

    +1

Same setup in our house. We did had a toaster which was accidently taken apart to see how it worked by me and my brother (we were only kids). After that it was one sided toast doen on the grill for breakfast and/or supper. Lovely.

I use the double slice method when making a toasted sangwidge.

    Turn on the grill.

Put two slices in one aperture in the toaster and push down.

Pop up one sided toast. Butter lightly (optional)

Put cheese on the untoasted side of one slice and ham on the untoasted side of the other slice.

    Season.

    Put in now hot grill.

Marry the two sides of delicious melted cheesiness and ham and have with a big cuppa tea.

    Yummy.

Like eating coleslaw and wearing shoulder padded cardies, that sort of sick behaviour is exactly why I'm glad the 80s are a distant memory.

How does the cardie effect the taste of the coleslaw?
