The problem is that the tape stretched a bit and snapped. My plan is to try to recover what's on it by using a bit of sticky tape to splice it together and then and play the cassette (once only per side!) for output to MP3.

Does anyone know whether a piece of Sellotape will do the job?

It always worked for me back in the day.

You will lose some of the audio around that point obviously but it should be fine.

Tried it and played it through (once!) to record directly to PC. Result: a resounding success! Obviously, I tested and refined my transfer process with a couple of tapes which were less valuable, and it worked.
