Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Another which MP3 player thread?

Had a read through a few of the threads here to try and enlighten myself regarding an MP3 player replacement but there seems to be just too many options out there.

I've had an 8Gb ipod nano for the past 4 years or so and it served me well although the storage capacity was a bit small. The battery is now a goner so its time for an upgrade.

    Specs I'm looking for are:
    - at least 8Gb
    - radio
    - preferably non touch screen.

I'm hoping not to spend more than €100 but given that I'll have it for a number of years I may pay more if I've a good reason to. I'll use it mostly for running so that's the main reason I don't want a touch screen. I liked the ipods physical scroller wheel compared to the touch screens of a zen and a zune that I've borrowed.

Anything else I should be looking at spec wise? Don't think bluetooth is overly necessary but no harm in having it. I see some come with removeable Sd cards also. Any comments on these?

Any brands to avoid? Lots of less known ones around now. Doubt I'll be going for an Apple again given their cost per Gb especially as most of them are touch screen now.

Even some advice on what to avoid given what I'm looking for would be a big help.

standard answer here for those requirements...

sansa zip or older model sansa clip+

    http://www.pixmania.ie/ie/uk/10816082/art/sandisk/sansa-clip-zip-mp3-player.html

can be expanded with micro sd card - e.g. 32gb card for just over 30 euro.

great for running as has built in clip, has radio, battery life 15hr mp3 / 9hr using radio as uses battery more.

if you can find sansa clip+ model you can rockbox it for more advanced features but that takes a tiny bit of research but is simple to do. zip can't be rockboxed currently.

Thanks Glasso! That looks like it ticks all the boxes. The price looks great for what you get. I just read a few reviews on it and they are all very positive. I'll prob look to order this this evening.

P.S. Error in my original post. my nano was a 2Gb so 8Gb with removeable storage will be a big increase.

Pretty much. Some of the plugins don't have the right graphics.
But for music listening it does me fine. Also stable USB aswell with bootloader v4 and a current build.
    More info here.
    Few themes aswell now.

Came home this evening to find my Zip Clip delivered. Well happy with it so thanks again for the advice. It is very small but I still think it's perfect for what I want. Radio reception seems good also.

I love it's simplicity and the fact that it's such great value for money. The ability to drag and drop with windows seems to much easier than iTunes.

The volume was very low but a quick search online revealed that setting the region to Europe sets the maximum very low. Changing the region to the rest of the world fixes it.

I'd recommend getting one of these silicone covers - only a few quid but does offer some protection from rain when jogging and from dropping. you can still operate the buttons when it's on.
