ashes from turf fire

I heard that wood ash is good for flowering plants, but I've got a good bit of ash off turf fires over the winter - is this any good for the garden?
I could do with something potassium-like to improve the flowering on my young apple trees...
Does the acid quality of the peat remain in the ashes or has the burning neutralised it?

Thanks for your thoughts folks :)

as far as i know, peat ash is actually alkaline. should be fine in the garden.
