Good press release below, let's see if we can add a few of our own buns:
Dough Bill much kneaded news for Blaa- Ciara Conway

    Issued : Thursday 9 February, 2012

    Statement by Ciara Conway TD

Labour T.D. for Waterford, Ciara Conway is welcoming a provision in the Finance Bill 2012 that will mean the Blaa will not be taxed.

The Blaa is one of a number of bread products, including pitta bread, naan breads and bagels that have a designated tax rate of zero.

"Some people outside of Waterford might not be aware of the Blaa, which a delicacy only found in the Déise," said Ciara Conway T.D.

"It's a type of square bread roll, which can be floury or crusty, and is a very popular breakfast time or mid-morning snack - especially with a bit of bacon or some red lead (luncheon meat).

"The Blaa is being considered for a special EU designation meaning that no other product can be branded with the same name.

"We love our Blaas here in Waterford- there's even a 'Fleadh Blaa Hooley' planned for Dungarvan this Sunday. It's a fund-raiser for the Waterford Festival of Food, Dungarvan and Fleadh Cheoil na Mumhan (Munster Fleadh). It will feature music and fun for all the family- as well as plenty of freshly baked blaas.

"I'm pleased that the finance bill - (or dough bill) - contains this much kneaded measure. The tax-free status isn't so much an attempt to butter up the bakers, as a recognition that we've got something distinctive and unique. The yeast we can do is protect our heritage."

Ah good old Deputy Conway always good for a laugh.....or a smile outside Talk Talk as hundreds lost their jobs but hey she got her pic taken with her leader:rolleyes:

To think that the people of Waterford voted for Waterfords answer to the Haely Rae!!!!!! All anyone had to do was look at her performance on the council prior to that........compared campervan owners to cream crackers:rolleyes:

And to think there is thread upon thread post upon post on this forum as to why Waterford cannot attract employment........and ye wonder why!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I genuinely thought that was something Waterford Whispers put up because surely no Government politician would release such a statement in these times...

. She should grow up and stop treating this like a joke...

It is clearly obvious that she is very immature and comes from a college type political backround, has had anything she wanted in life handed to her and never did a real days work in her life.........by the end of this Dail term she will be a millionare having earned over that amount in ther term.

Typical Labour salmon socialist, did she not tell people she would oppose water charges etc......I didnt see her at the Tower Hotel the other night!! Labour have well and truely sold the working man out........

Alaways around for cheap press coverage though.......with that cheesey smile......

Awful idea of a press release. Awful.

Nice and all as it is, its not worthy of a press release and its not something to shout about.

Crazy stuff. This lady is costing us around 200k a year and this is the best she can come up with?

Come to think of it has she actually done anything to really make a difference to the people of Waterford since she was elected?

The bit at the end is a bit silly, but this got good coverage on rte radio 1, which is good for the city. It gives us a reputation as a place to come for good fried.

Ciara certainly hasn't had everything handed to her in life.

Indeed, it is good news for our local bakerys that the Blaa has been designated a tax rate of zero. It did get good coverage on RTE Radio 1 but it was alongside the announcement of 100s of jobs around the rest of the country. The phrase "throw the dog a bone" (or in this case a Blaa) springs to mind.

Light-hearted stuff is fine for Facebook/Twitter. But the article sounds pretty serious. I doubt taxing the ball would have killed it, jobs, or the local economy. Its great and all, but nothing to shout from the rooftops.
