Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Would love to, but from where I live, getting to a race in deepest darkest Wicklow is more convenient, than getting to Malahide.

Was hoping to make this tomorrow but I've picked up a bit of an injury that needs some rest. Will hopefully get to run this soon though!

Sounds like we might have a bit of a race on our hands tomorrow. I have the timekeeper job tomorrow, so puts a bit more pressure on that role. :)

Over 700 registered now which is amazing.

Anyone running, please come over and say hello....and join us for coffee afterwards....and volunteer!

That is seriously impressive to get that many people out and running again in only the second week. Well done again guys for getting this off the ground. Think there may have been someone from my club over running it this weekend as well.

Think it probably shows how many people read the forum as well, don't think it was really 'advertised' other than this thread?

Ran 23.38 last week. Decided to try and do 23.20 today so set up the Garmin. Felt good most of the way through the run and finished in 22.43, according to my Garmin. Well happy !! Don't know what I'll do next week though !! Cracking morning, lovely course, great gang. Thanks to all the organisers and I promise I'll volunteer soon !!

I made my way out this morning.

Alas, the northside defeated me and I was 10 minutes late. Was hoping they would still have some organisational niggles to iron out but nope, it seems it started bang on time.

Ran the course anyway and it’s very impressive. Really picturesque, some lovely wooded areas and a stunning morning for it. Two thumbs up from me.

Yet another glorious sunny morning in Malahide with perfect running conditions. 216 finishers with a new course record of 16:30 - two others I think went sub-17 (which is the "elite level" for Parkrun).

Good to see a few boardsies there (I could hear the "I'm X from Boards" conversations going on behind me when I was working the stopwatch on the finish line).

Irish Independent were there also, so hopefully some positive coverage in Fit magazine coming soon.

Great job lads - did the run this morning, brought along a friend who did his first run in 20 years (and only finished a minute behind me.)

Great course, great organisation, great weather.

Great fun- really top class to all involved in organizing. Finished 9th in 18 15 or so after my 8 month layoff. Delighted to be back racing and happy enough after only a few weeks of ok training

It's a lovely run, fair play to the organisers, will definitely be running again and hope to volunteer soon too. Hopefully more of these events will pop up over the country too!

  • Registered Users Posts: 228 ✭✭Walkedit

I did the run again and again it was really good - I highly recommend it, >200 finishers with 2x sub 17m, now >700 are reg'd to run so it's success looks assured. I was intent on not pushing after last week's PB run so I brought Jacob (Black Lab X) along and he ran with me on a short lead. In the fun spirit of Parkrun our furry friends are welcomed. He was the first (only) dog home! Thanks to everyone who 'Liked' him at the run. I'm proposing him as Parkrun mascot for Malahide! I may even have to register him?

I even managed to combine running with volunteering and met all the team which was nice as well.

It's official I Love Parkrun - it could be a great bumper sticker!
    Roll on next week

Very impressive this morning lads. Just shows you what can be done by a few like minded people. Nice course with plenty of variation including a nice little rise that has to be negotiated 3 times.

Got round in 21:12 by my garmin which is a pb by 84 Seconds. Thanks to Meno for the pacing. Definitely kept me going.

  • Registered Users Posts: 130 ✭✭FiiFii

Made the 'trek' to the northside for this and really enjoyed it (even if did get V confused at the end as to where I was going and stopped short of the line :p, thanks guys for all the organising

Fair play for the organisation lads. Absolute credit to all involved. How do you do the times? Do you record them manually at the finish and log them? I can see how the token system works for the positions.

Will be back before Christmas I'd say. Will definitely help out in a few weekends time.

You possibly didn't notice the timer guy. He clicks each person on a timer as they cross the line. The data from the timer is uploaded onto the laptop as well as the information from the scanners. The software links the list of times with the list of names that were scanned (and their positions).

    Thanks. Appreciate that.

You could bring the kids with you. A bit of aerobic training for them, wouldn't do the football any harm at all... :)

I gave it a go this morning. Really enjoyed it. Great set up, very well organised.
Lovely to have done a decent run on a Saturday at a time when I would usually be still in the cot!

This is a great initiative and hopefully it will prosper.

Well done to Plodder, Peckham and the growing hoard of volunteers.

This was my first chance to actually run it. Turns out I'm sorely lacking fitness after a period of post marathon lethargy.

At least now I have a parkrun PB I can keep chipping away at.

Twas my first time, and certainly not my last, running this race yesterday. Great event, well run and accurately measured. Couldn't ask for better. Well done and thanks to all involved.

I was banging on all day about my 18 second PB as had 19:39 on the watch but I suppose I'll take the official 17 seconds ;)

You folks have got to start introducing yourselves!

That was me doing the pre-run briefing and scanning barcodes after, and plodder was handing out finishing tokens. Say hello next time!

I've been wondering if the course is PB'able. So, it's good to see people doing it. When we measured it I figured it was quite flat, but actually there is a slight incline to get over (3 times :) ) Nothing too serious though, I hope.

I ran the 1st run but have been unable to get back since but was wondering with the explosion in numbers how soon before a second site will be in place to take some of the demand? I know you guys are probably working on it and an actual date is probably unavailable but would it be this side of xmas?

Also wondering will it take away from Jingle Bells crowd on Sat...debating whether to go for the fast course or the free course!:D

There are a group of volunteers currently working on Marlay Park, we are making good progress. We are trying to get the start up funding in place and hope to be up and running within a few weeks once fully funded but it will be sometime in the new year.

Nice run and at that time as well as a PB am I right that it made you

A little bird told me you finished just behind me, claralara. I was home in 19.27, my first parkrun and definitely not my last. I'm doing Jingle Bells this week, but after that my calendar is pretty free. Actually, my other option was to join the Marlay gang for a recce over on the southside, but an actual race was more appealing. I think I spoke to some of you organisers afterwards. I'll say no more, clara, except that a certain person from the north will be looking anxiously over his shoulder next time out.

Thanks to the organisers and volunteers of the Malahide park run, well done it was great achivement and a credit you all. :D
I have just compleated my C25K program and this was my first 5K run and it was a nice run. So thanks you very much. I may have been my first but hopefully not my last. I will try and make as many as I can but I live west of the Shannon and it a 3+ hour trip to Dublin.
It good to see how many people have registered, and the large crowd that turned up for the run mind you to me it looked nearer to 400 who ran.

Mind you I was less than half way when the leader was finished, so a bit to go ;)

I ran a 42 sec PB on Saturday, so definitely PB-able! I think it's a relatively flat uncongested course.

    Thanks again for organising it.

There are plenty of Parkrun "tourists" who try to run as many different events as possible. So far we've had a few people travel over from UK (at least one who flew in an hour before the run, and flew out later that day), and last Saturday we were visited by the Event Director of Wellington Parkrun in New Zealand running in his 40th different event.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,800 ✭✭✭thirstywork2

It's not really an event, it's a series of regular runs, soon to be in various locations.

The closest parallels would be the BHAA and IMRA threads, which are both in the main forum.

From my limited experience of BHAA and parkrun I'd say there's enough difference for the two to co-exist.

BHAA has a variety of distances and courses that change every week, you have a regularly updated league table and you have the element of representing your company and your colleagues.

parkrun seems to be more geared towards regular participation than placing. Tee-shirts are awarded for 50, 100 and 250 runs etc. There is a year-end league table which I obviously haven't seen yet which scores on placings as well as on the number of times you volunteer.

That's just my take on what I've seen so far.

Yes, I think they appeal to different crowds for the most part.
