    :)
    Hello all,
Am planning a trip to Killarney next month with the gf (going from 15-18th March) for our 5th anniversary.
Can anyone suggest things that there are to do? Also, anybody know of any quirky, off-the-beaten-track style bookshops?

We will have no car, so anything that is quite nearby (or accessible by buses etc) would be most useful.

Also, any suggestions of romantic places that could be looked at (restaurants etc etc)?

    Many thanks in advance,
    Vinny.
    :)

The Killarney book shop has a good selection of books, worth a look. It's very close to the divine Murphy's Icecream shop/café -a must!!

For romance, with a bit of cheesiness thrown in, a trip in a jarvey car out towards Muckross is always good fun. Miss Coutney's tea-rooms is old fashioned style tea-rooms, also well worth a look.Ross castle is a short walk from town and is well worth a look

    Where are you staying?

Sweet, will definitely check those out. :)

As for where we're staying, was thinking on maybe the Gleneagle, or somewhere similarly fancy, but again, any suggestions that people might have would be greatly appreciated. :D

If you are looking for somewhere romantic to stay in Killarney avoid the Gleneagle Hotel and try their sister property The Brehon or for real 5 star luxury try the Aghadoe Heights Hotel on the outskirts of the town over looking the lakes

Yeah, I looked into those. Unfortunately the Brehon is fully booked up for that Friday (16th) :(

And the Aghadoe is only available for check-in on the Friday. This wouldn't suite as our anniversary is the Thursday, and she is in college, so doesn't want to be out too much.

    Any other suggestions?

Did you try the lake hotel Muckross Rd, it is a wee bit out of town but it is outstanding in relation to romance and scenery....For Towm based Hotels how about the Malton, or Park hotel..Dromhall hotel..
second hand book store called the Dungeon in College Street....never know what you might find...Also a book shop/ stationary in the outlet centre..
Take a boat trip from ross castle to inisfallen Island......Muckross house and gardens....Torc waterfall...and don't forget the parade...

Have you tried the Avenue? right in the middle of town..

plenty b and b's that offer exceptional quality, have a look on tripadvisor for ideas on where to stay, eat, and things to do?

The pay as you please restaurant up quill's lane is pretty cool and quirky and it serves fresh food!

The Lake Hotel is very VERY romantic and a lovely spot. Bear in mind you will be out from the town a fair bit though, without a car you'll be getting cabs up and down. Beautiful hotel, if you havent already booked, you should go for the Deluxe Lake View rooms with the 'in-room' jacuzzi bath -we stayed here for my birthday and it was fab!

In town I would really recommend The Ross - great hotel, nice trendy decor, top restaurant and a lively bar downstairs. I have found the staff very nice to deal with and we were upgraded to a suite for free on one occassion.

Definately do a jaunting car trip out around Muckross, nice thing to do for a bit of craic. There's also a trip you can do - jaunting car then a cruise on a boat on the lakes. Don;t have the name of the organisers but if you google it it should be easy enough to find.

If you want a treat / sp is your thing then the Spa at the Brehon is lovely (and close to the Lake Hotel) or a visit to Espa at Hotel Europe is out of this world ;0)

    Enjoy!

OK, so the time is just here. A quick question - does anyone have a rough idea how much it would cost for a taxi from the town to the lake hotel? Thanks in advance
