Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Just see this on RTE News

    http://www.rte.ie/news/2012/0212/kellyd.html
The actor David Kelly has died in hospital after a short illness. He was 82.

He was one of the most recognisable voices and faces of Irish stage and screen, playing everything from Beckett to Shakespeare.

He was best known in Ireland for his performance as 'Rashers' Tierney in Strumpet City.

His appearance in Fawlty Towers, as the builder O'Reilly, brought him to a British audience.

In 2005, he appeared as Charlie's grandad in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

He was nominated for a Screen Actors Guild award for his role in Waking Ned and also received an IFTA lifetime achievement award and a Helen Hayes award for Moons for the Misbegotten.

He is survived by his wife, Laurie, his son David and daughter Miriam.
    RIP

Sad, but he got a good innings by living to 82 and he certainly left his mark on Irish cinema.

A line I'll never forget from Rashers Tierney in Strumpet City is: "God never closes one door but he shuts another.":)

Rashers Tierney has left the building!!!!!!!

My Dad was just telling me he was in a series a good few years ago called Robins Nest, and he was "a one armed dish washer"

Fecking priceless. One of our very greats...

RIP Rashers, and a safe onward journey!

I for one am shocked that he was only 82!

I want to look like David Kelly on my deathbed; with a body - and that face - that has been utterly used and worn out with a life evidently very much enjoyed.

Had the greatest of pleasure of having a couple of pints with the man about 12 years ago (think he gave it up soon after - hope it wasn't my fault). What a character and the stories flowed out of him, I could have listened to him forever. RIP, what a legend of an Irish actor.

A tremendously headbangerish C.V., encompassing everything from Fawlty Towers, Emmerdale (Back when it was a farm!) & Glenroe to slapstick farce like Waking Ned, Tim Burton Fairytales, and heavyweight stuff like A man of no importance & Ulysses.

Mr Kelly was an endearingly gifted chancer who effortlessly stole scenes from such diverse leading men as Henry Fonda, Cyril Cusack, John Cleese, Vinny Jones, Albert Finney, Robert DeNiro & Johnny Depp at every turn.

Charming and funny, he will be missed.
