Secondaries on the liver = not a hope unfortunately.

yep the father had the very same diagnosis last year...no coming back from this unfortunately. The mother spent a long time fighting for additional care and was looking for an alternative diagnosis when there wasnt one to be had. I totally understand this womans desire to do whatever it takes even if there may not be a solution.

If I got any serious illness diagnosis, I would want a 2nd opinion, Doctors are human and can be wrong. I know in this case there is an end game but perhaps treatment could extend the lenght of time he has left. Awful stuff for the family.

Joe will not disagree with woman with posh voice as she sounds authoritative.

Woman with posh voice graciously offers to lend her (as yet unqualified) expertise to woman from Kerry.

    Another triumph for Liveline!

Especially where the HSE is concerned. Breast scan anyone?

It might give other people the courage to come forward so it may very well help them.

    Come forward and do what?

Calls admitting abuse would have been useful in the 80s and 90s.

Even a person who rings up and is being abused right now, I welcome(the call, not the abuse).

Take the current call about the woman whose son(?) needs specialist care. What is she hoping to get from ringing Joe? He cant ring a hospital in London and force them to admit her son. Instead its turning into a HSE bashing campaign. Now the HSE is no bloody good, we know that already, but for a guy with a listenership of about 400,000 people, for someone who can actually get things done, he seems to do eff all.

Continually chipping away at the HSE is not going to do any good.

This (second) woman advising a second opinion, seems to have done some good, but I forsee a lot of the rest of the program dedicated to other people with cancer, and their widows and widowers, and again we will have gone from helping a person to dozens of people talking about their problems.

Here we go, we have a widow already on talking about her grief.

Really.what's your point exactly? A woman who isn't facing the reality of a terminal illness is the topic really

I also agree with this woman, if I was given that sort of diagnosis (twice say) I'd have to weigh up quality or quantity of the time left and if treatment would be worth it or not.
Cancer its such a scourge :(

Totally agree with you, both of my parents had cancer and once you hear that there is secondarys in liver 99% of the time its a lost cause. But we as siblings would still do everything we could to give them more time,i really feel sorry for this lady and her kids.

What is Joe saying,is he saying that you should just give up,he should be encouraging her to do everything she can and help her.

I dont think he is in a position to encourage her either way.

I'd say it is only short time until Joe gets an honorary Docrtorate from the likes of UCD, and then he can say "Talk to Doctor Joe". Then it will be misery porn all day long.

Cancer and treatment (or lack of) is of huge interest to the huge amount of people in the country affected by it and their family, if its not to you fine, if this subject and adoption and abuse weren't of national interest LL wouldnt' have a huge listenership surely.

I was thinking that the woman from Kerry sounds quite posh herself when she first came on, was quite surprised when she said she was from Kerry.

She's not exactly 'Big Maggie' material is she...

First of all we aren't talking about adoption and abuse so when you try to make a point try to stick to the topic. Read my post again if you are confused. Secondly don't dare to Assume my situation regarding cancer and it's affect on my family ok? You clearly aren't intelligent enough to have this conversation with.

Ah come on its an ongoing issue of interest to a huge amount of Irish people, apart from travellers fighting or whatever your interested in what topics should be covered that aren't on LL, is it not listener driven (the ones that call in I mean) and maybe people get some solace from been on the air?

My father in law was over from Scotland last year driving around Ireland, when he got to our place I was asking how his drive was. He asked who is Dr. Joe on the radio,it finally clicked that he was referring to the intro for liveline, he mistook "talk to Joe" as "dr. Joe".
