Thankfully the government seems to understand that putting up the cost of alcohol takes food out of the mouths of children.

If people are so addicted to alcohol that they will drink instead of feeding their Children, then raising the price will leave more children going hungry.

Edit: Sorry, you were making the same point. I'm still hungover.

    Heres a question?

These polls are infrequent enough but where does the profit go?

For example, the late late show run a competition each week. Say for instance the prize is €20,000 with an entry fee of €1 per text, if they get 30000 texts where does the €10,000 go?

The irish are world champions at spending money on things they dont need.

Ranging from insolvent banks to uninhabitable apartments with no fires safety certs. I'm fed up listening to this kind of fatuous bullsh1t from cranks.

I don't think the late late show carries cash prizes, generally such prizes are attached to a sponsor. However I have always felt that such competitions shouldn't be premium numbers as the prize is not given by RTÉ but rather by the sponsor.

The premium rate service provider gets a cut as do the broadcasters and the Telephone companies.

Irish people do turn a blind eye to things.

Then they phone national radio shows to piss and moan when the horse has bolted.

Dont they give holidays with spending money for example?

Although they are attached to a sponsor there is a charge involved and the money must be going somewhere

Why should the unions use their money for anything other than what they want?

They aren't obliged to help out "community programmes" or "the people".

They should be able to build what they like as long as local authorities/planning are happy, and they have their own money behind it.
