Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

If someone downloads a song illegally but then watches the same song on youtube alot of times, does it make up for it?

Because the artist gets alot of revenue from people watching their video on youtube.

    Just a thought.

    * Youtube videos make alot of money on add revenue.

Remember the video with the dog running after some animals in a field and a farmer running after them, well that made £70,000 in 2 weeks!!

Depending on where you are streaming it takes anywhere from 1 million to 4 million plays to earn 1000 dollars for an artist.

Artists don't make **** from people watching their stuff on Youtube.

Advertising space is expensive. If you are going to have a million hits you could sell the ad space.
Thats how youtube works , them people that get a few milion hits make a few grand out of it.
I think the charlie bit my finger kids made 40000 grand in youtube advertising partnership at one stage , Id say its way more than that now.
Some people make a living doing stuff like guitar lesson videos and makeup tutorials.

Realistically though, if you've downloaded the song why would you then go and watch it on Youtube? I don't know about others, but my conscience certainly wouldn't bother me enough to put up with slow video downloads and a deluge of ads for the sake of ethically listening to a song.

If I felt that bad about it, I'd just buy the track instead to be honest.

The term "Internet ethics" is a paradox.

So what's the point of having a computer then?
Change the commandments to things you can do, should be a bit shorter.

Actually, there are devices that print three dimensional objects now... printing spare car-parts is a very close possibility at the moment. For a whole care it's only a matter of time.

And yes, actually, I would download a car.... F.A.C.T.

Delicious irony I didn't know about:

The song in that anti-piracy "download a car" ad was...........yes, pirated.

Ethical music-downloading for me is 'I'll have a listen to your stuff and if it's good I'll buy it when I have the cash'

People just watch films to slag them off, that's why they are fine to steal.

I hate to break it to you, but unless you actually put a bit of effort in, it's anything but.

OP - Here's a question, why haven't the FBI siezed youtubes domain yet? I stream music off it from unofficial sources on a daily basis, it's a lot more likely it's existence has saved me from buying CDs than megavideo did DVDs, but it's acceptable? Explain those ethics.

Maybe you took me the wrong way :)
I was referring to real world ethics verus internet ethics. (the hypocrisy like. when anonymity is brought into things)

For example, I could be the most quiet, seemingly nice and respectful person you could ever meet in the real world. My 'official' values could be never steal, don't be rude and be honest.... On the internet however I could be the biggest & rudest dick, who is into 'smut' porn & loves to bash black people :) thats what I meant by my post.

    What's an oxymoron?

A tracker mortgage is a contradiction in terms; it's a combination of the Greek words for 'sharp' and 'dull', in that order.

    * Youtube videos make alot of money on add revenue.
That doesn't matter if the video was uploaded by someone that doesn't own the rights to it.

In cases where the record company or artist upload a video they're just doing it to advertise an album or single.

If you feel that bad about illegally downloading something just spend €10.00 (or whatever it is) on the CD. If you actually enjoy watching a video thousands of times go ahead but you're kidding yourself if you think that it's going to help an artist make money.

Not necessarily. The uploader gets paid per view, as long as ads are enabled but the uploader may not directly be the artist.

^The uploader must claim that they have the copyright to enable the revenue sharing.
