    Hi guys

I am currently on unpaid maternity leave have 6 weeks left of my of it as i took the 16wks unpaid. I have 3 kids under three and our working week is four days from 7 am to 5. 20 pm with three kids i am seriously considering not going back to my current job. I would like to get a job with a shorter working day as my eldest is starting playschool in september and i need to drop him to school. My question is what reason to i give my employer and social welfare as i want to draw my stamp until i find a new job and i dont want to be waiting the nine weeks as i would be penalised for leaving my job volantarily. Plus can i hand in my notice now and it can come off my unpaid maternity leave does anyone know or do i have to work my 4 weeks notice?

    All advice greatly appreciated
    thanks

Hmm, good question! The only remotely related thing I can find is that you must give 4 weeks notice that you intend to return to work from maternity leave. So you could write in at that stage and say that you don't intend to return. But I don't know if the date would be effective immediately, or from when your first day back is supposed to be.

Have you asked them about the possibility of shortening your hours by the way?

I don't know for definite - am happy to move this to State Benefits if you'd like, as the folks there may know more.

But be aware that you do not have a right to "draw your stamp": to make a successful claim for Jobseeker's Benefit, you need to have lost full-time employment. I'm pretty sure that welfare would be looking for a letter or something from your employer saying that they no longer had work for you, in this case.
