Humming Noise???

    Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone here has had a similar experience. (I'm not looking for medical advice, I've been to the GP and intend following up, just looking to hear of similar experiences)
Something I must note before getting to the crux of this is that I do suffer from Tinnitus in my left year. This is from years of playing in bands etc. It's a very slight case, and is only audible when I'm going asleep or am in a very quiet environment. I merely state this as I'm sure when I describe my next experience people will automatically say Tinnitus.

Basically just over a week ago, I started hearing a humming noise in the evenings. This is a very different sound to my tinnitus, the best way of describing it is like an engine running somewhere in the distance or a fridge or some kind of electrical appliance. The noise has been accompanied by a feeling of light pressure in either ear. I since have came down with a respitory infection, and when I went to the doctor she noted that there was some fluid in both ears. She reckoned the humming was a direct result of this, but would go away once the infection cleared. My infection is starting to go away, but the humming and feeling of pressure still persists. I was wondering has anyone out there experienced the same thing and if so did the noise go away??
I've scheduled a revist to the GP for the beginning of next week either way, but if anyone had similar experience it might put my mind at rest.

I think anyone who has ear problems will tell you there are a load of different sounds, effects, humming, popping, etc, as well as tinnitus. They are caused by any number of different things - fluid, air pressure, wax are just a few. Try and ignore it for the moment until your doctor has seen it again. The only thing I would suggest is the advice most audiologists will give you, not to have your ears syringed for wax, get the advice of an ENT person, there are other ways of clearing wax.

mod: willjoe, since you are new I will explain - the hum is off topic for hearing and deafness, I was asking you nicely not to go off topic. Your second contribution would be considered arguing about a mod decision, or in this case, polite request. Now please, drop it. Take it elsewhere. And read the rules before you post any more.

What did the GP say? You should maybe check with a hearing specialist as well.

Personally, if I listen to loud music I may get a single tone ring in my ears a few hours after I've stopped listening to the music. Would be be listening to anything loud? Depending on you level of hearing loss it may not seem loud to you, but it may be, if that makes sense.
