UPC - Modem Freezing - Utorrent

17-02-2012 12:02pm#1Having an issue with my modem freezing up when im using a utorrent. It only happens when im downloading. UPC have asked me to remove my router from the situation and then call them back however this is not the item at fault as the home network is stable at all times. Once the modem is restarted, internet connection is re-established. I removed my router this morning and logged into the modem (a motorola surfboard sb5100e). [There is no option in the settings to turn off ip flood detection]

Any ideas? about to install utorrent on the locally connected computer now and see if that freezes the modem0

Humour the scripty tech. Remove your router and connect your PC to the modem*. It the connection drops again, suggest a modem swap or for them to actually do their job and diagnose the problem. Chances are, it might just be a cabling issue, maybe out side of your house, maybe....
* Having said that, I read the riot act to a UPC tech guy who told me to do that. If you don't have decent software firewalls [which I don't trust anyway] on your PC, it could be hosed within minutes.0 -
When the issue happens, what's the status of the lights on the modem?
I too, would suggest to try this out while the router isn't connected.
On a side note, that's two months worth of logs. Monitor the logs while the issue is occurring, otherwise those logs aren't very relevant.0 -
is utorrent upto date? i had a really buggy version for a while but then utorrent released an updated version which is more stable0

Well new install of utorrent caused the same issue again within 3 hours so technician coming next week with new router. See if that sorts it. Can't just send it out to me to self install as I'd have to pay for it then [sigh]0
