Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Back in CBS in the 90's, we had a mad fella for a computer teacher, didn't know anything past punching cards and basic spreadsheets. He once threw a kid in a chair across the lab for messing. there was only 1 computer with internet back then, and 1 of the lads beside me was using it to look up porn and there was a bunch of lads all around us, I unplugged the speakers from the back of the PC and plugged into my walkman under the table.

Put on FM104 for some tunes and the speakers, so the teacher (Jack) comes over thinking I put a CD ROM in the drive and was playing loud music. so he runs over and shoves a load of kids outta the way, starts opening the CD drive to turn off the blaring music, it's empty. he turns the volume down on the speakers, no effect - I turned the volume up on the walkman at the same time. he pushed another kid out of the way and grabs the keyboard, desperately ctrl alt deling to turn off the sound.

An ad for copperface jacks comes on the radio, and 30 kids start singing the jingle for copperface jacks with him (Jack) in the middle, I turn the sound louder on the speakers, the lads sing louder. he thinks they are making fun of him having never heard of the new nightclub on harcourt st. he is increasingly agitated and is pounding the keyboard at this point, fumbeling for the power switch and power chord, anything.

An ad for toblerone comes on next "triangluar chocolate from triangluar bees.. please give me toblerone" as the jingle played, again the lads surrounding Jack began to sing along, as I increased and lowered the volume, the lads sang lower and louder in kind, it was very subtle. At this point the man was FREAKED, turned off the computer, still the noise!

as the jingle ended "...please give me..." I pumped the volume to the max and took a deep breath for the last word ... "...TOBLERONE!!!!!" roared 30 lads spontaneously, none more than 2 metres from the man. I immediately turned off the sound, and there was a dead silence.

The look on Jacks face was like when Fr. Ted kicked Bishop Brennan up the arse. he didn't believe what just happened and wandered off disorientated to get some air.

A fun one is to swap the M and N keys on peoples keyboards.

Another one used to be to swap the keyboard and Mouse connectors around. Neither would work and was a pain to find out why. USB killed that fun.

Back in the old Gateway days if someone was away for a few days we'd power off their workstation and set flick the power tab on the power supply to 110 volts.
Cue the massive BANG when they fired up the machine on their return :pac:

Another was to set the windows startup sound to the Father Ted theme tune and set the speakers to max.
Hilarious hearing that being blasted over the floor while victim scrambles for the removed volume knob :pac::pac:

Back in secondary school myself and a friend went onto main server that held everyone's personal files

Hit Ctrl+A and then selected 'hide files'

There was chaos over it as everyone's files disappeared and the teachers only had a very basic knowledge of the system

No idea if they ever figured it out, we tried to fix it but no hope.

Changed all the splash images for computer programs on a mates pc to porn.
I've also done the ops trick a few times.

One trick in Digital years ago was to run a special program from your own account on someone elses terminal (workstation now of course)

This would just display the terminal server prompt (we used dumb terminals which connected to a terminal server box which i turn connected to the VAX mainframe.)

    Local>

So the unwitting stooge would type

    Local>C kluster

Which would seem to connect to the mainframe:

    LOGIN>STOOGE
    Password>*******
Too many users try again later

    Local>

In fact what had happened was that the program would now have stored your password to a file and then genuinely logged out of the mainframe.

    Oh the fun we had.

Done a few batch file pranks. First one just duplicated the file and opened it, over and over again.Screwing with the hosts file is good for getting one over on an enemy.

By any chance was his surname Hayes? Sounds EXACTLY like my computer teacher back in CBS days.

Your post reminded me of installing DOOM on all the computers unbeknownst to oul jack and playing it when we were supposed to be typing on Mavis Beacon haha!

Made a browser extension for chrome that turns all images on any webpage upside down. Tried it out on a few colleagues: confusion and hilarity ensues. :D

My brother was being a little bollocks so I infected his laptop (which ma uses) with some very precisely chosen websites. Really badly- a constant bombardment of some truly shocking images until he figured out what a virus was, what to do about it and bother doing it. The poor mother had to look at donkey wiggles everyday for about a year:( A great way to prank someone is through their virtual life. Its much easier to get away with stuff, its not like its real life! Don't ever miss the opportunity of a friends facebook account left logged in.:)

I once got my mates login details for the computers in DKIT and sent out a netsend message to the whole college saying my other mate john wets the bed . What made it even funnier was the fact we where in a lecture at the time and it came up on the projector screen . Then a message was sent over netsend telling cp1022 to get straight over to the head of department . He got a bollocking and had a warning about never to do it again :D:D

My mates older brother was given a batch file that would open porn every time my mate tried to use IE on his laptop.

So in retaliation I made one that opened dozens and dozens of instances of lemonparty and meatspin whenever he tried to use IE.

There was a small program i downloaded in secondary school, all it done was randomly change caps lock, num lock and scroll lock on and off.

set it to run in the schedualed tasks every time the computer was started. Only put it on a few computers in the room though but still quite fun when they weren't used for the rest of year as they all were infected with viruses!

another time i had just bought a new Hard Drive and with space lacking in my case i couldn't use the old one in it. I got all the info i needed off it and formatted it and installed a fresh version on XP. It was here i decided to be a dick and instead of setting it up for myself i set it up using my mates username and password (do you remember back in the day when you trusted your friends with that info?!) and had all the settings the same to the best of my memory.

When he was out i swapped the hard drives on his PC. Oh the giggles i had when he booted up to see EVERYTHING gone.

He was not impressed, but did see the funny side after a while!

Not the most computer literate myself but had one where I replaced the internet icon on the desktop with a file that shuts down the laptop when you click it, replaced the file icon with the browser one and change name and the like, worked a treat, even brought up a message thing that looked the biz.

Another one I fancied doing but never did was to set an alarm clock on a mates laptop to go off at 3am or something, with some porn as the wakeup video.

Used to convince people that computer viruses were spread by others who had the flu.

Was a great way to get on the PC. :pac:

Edited the sound file on Windows 95 so instead of the start up jingle it played the 9 min version of disco inferno and the pc would not boot up until lit was done.

before I became nice to everyone I work with

Shared certain staff members desktops and use to randomly delete icons or change the target paths so they would all open the same stuff.

also shared one persons audio file location.

and use to replace the incoming mail audio with a screaming orgasm wav file. Then I would get the embarrassed called to come a fix her pc "that something must have gone wrong" , i would replace original audio file and call out show it was fine , rub my chin and say that's very strange .

good times , Had to stop both after one user pretty much slapped the crap out of his pc and a customer walked in to here the receptions PC having an Orgasm . I blamed it all on ppl not using the available windows updates .

It's got to Jack Hayes. Had him in the CBS for Computers. Farting in his class was a no no. Crazy guy but he got a raw deal from the Students.

    Great days.

Somebody on a student forum direct linked to an image I used, hosted on photbucket or something, and used it as his sig. He was using up my bandwidth, so I changed it to an image of some gay porn. Was funny seeing the reactions.
