Wonderful!! Did that person have any idea what it was that has gone wrong to warrant holding it up that long?

I hope to find out more today. To be honest my friend is a cop in cork city and is very good friends with one or two of the guys in cfb, I had been anticipating a letter by this week and when it didn't happen I rang him. All he found out was May is certainly off the cards and now they are working towards September. No reasons no explanations unfortunately. If Anyone can add to this please do! We are all in the same dire situation!

Ha ha, this has to be a joke?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6 food for the babbi

Sorry I really wish it was. I am only relying on the same style of information as everyone else so nothing is certain. Maybe it's time I rang to ask. Has anybody rang cfb recently?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 332 ✭✭Fire1985

Ah I know, it's hard to know what to believe.
If I heard the same information I'd post it here so no worries.

Maybe a phone call would be a good idea!

  • Registered Users Posts: 9 wrtdvd

I rang city hall towards the end of February there, and all I was told was that there were no updates or information to give out. I really hope it's not as late as September. At this stage I'm starting to lose interest in it, which is a terrible way to be facing into a career!! But maybe a few more phone calls in quick succession might yield some results. I wonder would it be worth getting the local TD to raise the issue at the next city council meeting..

    Good morning men and/or Women!

Well done firstly everyone who got through this process, it really was good going it was a stringent process and although there are no certificates for this far its something to be proud of! It was the possibly the best recruitment process i've ever been through.

I signed up to boards today as i'm sure out of the 18 of us, many including myself have loved ones, kiddies, dogs, cats, goldfish etc making big plans with us towards our new careers in Cork!

So Guys i'm From Waterford and I work as a retained firefighter here in the City.
(For my colleague and buddy working with me in WCFS who is also going to Cork... yes its me, I am on boards and I await your mickey taking phone call!) When ye are wondering which one of us from Waterford wrote this message when we meet guys it will be the good looking one. ;) lol

Anyhow I just came on to say hi to everyone and by all means feel free to send me a private message requesting number/email exchange and should any of you be down Waterford way feel free to let me know, good to meet beforehand for a coffee and if anyone would like wee look around our local station here in Waterford, Chief willing, id be happy to oblige. :) Having met some of the group already it seems Cork are getting a genuinely great bunch of people and I personally am looking forward training with you all and to serving the people of Cork.

Regarding recruitment, I have to agree with a previous poster, I am now setting my sights on a later than May start. Without getting into why, having been told by genuine and honest people that its likely the case. As I said before i'm sure we all have loved ones etc hanging in there with us so i just thought id mention what I believe to be the case. That said with these things there can be white smoke when you least expect it!

Again good to touch base with you all, i'm sure many of us will look back with 20 odd years service behind us together and read back over all these posts.

take care all and hopefully see ye soon!

Hi Dr Juice!! Welcome to the thread!! This wait is torture for all of us alright!! I don't suppose your source had any idea as to how much after May the start would be no? Did they mention September/ October as previously mentioned in the thread? Reason being if that was the case I'd probably go away and look for more work over the summer, as at the moment I'm working in a bar and getting pretty sick of it!!

    Hi Wrtdvd.

Id hate to be putting you wrong mate, and believe me until the day your contract comes in the post you actually have no idea what twists and turns these things can take. There is such a combination of things to come right sometimes that it just gets dragged on. All ill say without putting you wrong is, based on what im aware of I now personally am trying to arrange my circumstances for a September + start.

Apologies mate I dont mean to come across as cagey, im not a huge fan of putting things that I cant stand over, with 100 percent certainty on d'oul interweb!. Like everyone else i just feel for us all waiting to be let out of the traps and families etc along with it.

No worries man!! I understand that nobody can say anything with any degree of certainty. As you said until we're holding the contracts in our hands it's anybody's guess!!

    Hey Lads,
Another one here in the same boat as the rest of ye. New to this site but it seems everyone is just as frustrated as myself. It's very annoying when having worked so hard to get to this stage, the council won't fill us in on the reasons why things are taking so long. I've emailed them myself but didn't even receive a response. Let's hope we hear something soon at least, good or bad!

Have you heard any rumours yourself?

I was told May 27th by a member of CFB 2 weeks ago but haven't heard anything else since I'm afraid

Just heard some news there from an SO here in Dublin that they may be training us up here instead of sending us over to England, once again this is just word on the street not a definite answer

To be honest I think we were always going to be trained here in ballyvolane. I think it was a long shot that we were going to England. But then again what do we know.

I've just resided in the fact that its going to be September.

I don't really mind now. No point in stressing anymore. It hasn't helped before.

    Hi lads,

I've been following this thread for a few months and thought I'd offer some advice.

Political changes such as Croke Park II, restructuring of the fire service nationally via the 'Keeping Communities Safe' document, local government funding cutbacks and internal promotion issues can probably explain the reason for the delay.

Some years ago, I too was left in limbo for a few months waiting to find out if I got the job (albiet not as long as yourselves!).

All I can recommend is the following advice:

    1. Keep the faith. Keep focussed. It will be resolved one way or the other in due course. It's a rewarding and exciting job, and a few months of waiting can be offset by a long, rewarding career.

    2. Keep your fitness levels up. You'll need it for recruit training. Think of it as pre-recruits preparation. That means cardio and resistance training. Sign up for road races. Stay injury-free. Read up on firefighter training and current issues. http://www.environ.ie/en/Publications/LocalGovernment/FireandEmergencyServices/

    3. When you start, remember to keep your head down. Work hard. Volunteer yourself for any task. Gain a reputation as a quiet, hard-working, dedicated professional. Make yourself busy all the time. Listen to and watch the more experienced lads. Identify the bestfirefighters on your shift, and follow their lead.

I hope this was of some use and that they let you know soon.

    Best of luck.

    MM

2nd of sept is the start date but it didn't say anything about uk. We start in ballyvolane . It's still possible to be sent uk at some stage. It's 10weeks I think

    HI Lads

I take it Cork won't be advertising for a while if they are still taking off panel.

18 on original panel, 5 coming on shift in 2 weeks.

I did hear a few turned it down as they'd moved on to new careers.

    Probably got to 25-28.

Advertising soon I'd say as numbers are way down .

  • Registered Users Posts: 4 gabresha

When you say advertising soon do you mean keep going on the panel or starting from scratch again..they're hanging on to the panel until oct/nov this year..

If the panel is still active then they may call more from it as it'd make sense. Another class is needed.

I heard the panel was finished with and that they're recruiting from scratch again .

Take this with a pinch of salt as rumours are always circulating.

Best bet is to contact hr if you're on the panel .

I'm told CFB are going to use the end of the panel. Training in March.
