Tests are exactly as they outlined in the info emailed, they take the usual BMI, height, weight etc, flexibilty... The beep test is the standard 20 meter, just push yourself and stay with the group you'll do fine! I passed, delighted! Back to Cork in 2 weeks for the work related... Good luck to all ye!

Yeah Delancey, a part of the next stage is to climb half way up a 13.5m ladder, take a leg lock and let go of the ladder with our hands. Then climb to the top, into a building, look down and identify a number/letters to show ability to look down from a height etc... I wonder will a lot of people fail these? Good luck to all doing the fitness today lads...

Jesus , well I've always known that I have a fear of heights - crap myself getting something out of the attic much less climb a 13.5 metre ladder
Much as I would love to be a firefighter I've had the good sense not to waste mine and other peoples time applying.

Lads are passing on 10.1 so 12 u will pass.
I'm sure they higher u get the higher points u get so 12 is good.
It's just the beep that lads are failing on but if u get over ten ur cool.
The rest of it is SIMPLE.
Tbh the whole test is handy. Level 10 is reachable by most.
    Good luck

We were told beforehand the min standard is level 10. U will be fine with 12. Those who failed at my tests didn't make it to 10

Is anybody any wiser on how many recruits they are looking for?

I agree, would be very very surprised if it was that many. 12 is prob a more realistic number.

I think I was in the same group as yourself Fire1985 that was tested on Thursday, there was a good standard in it.

Mod Note - as per the charter '' No Text Speak '' , I've noticed it creeping in to a number of posts lately , especially people writing '' U '' instead of '' you ''. Not acceptable - use correct spelling please.

I'd say ur about right. Prob get it down to 80/90 from the next round and the pick the top 30/40 application forms for interview.
They won't interview us all. Think by law they have to interview 3 per position which would make 36 for 12 jobs

Is there defo an application between the next phase and interviews? I got the impression it was the interview after the work related tests.

No definitely not man. The guy told our group that after the next stage there will be application form from which they will select people who they want to Interview.
    This is 100% true :)
I'm unsure how detailed the form will be

any1 else worried about medical? 20/20 vision in each eye is stricter criteria than most emergency services worldwide. I'd understand if it was to be a fighter pilot. I dont wear glasses but one eye weaker than the other. Im hoping there's some leeway.

I hear u, I was thinking that myself.
    Doubt there's any leeway.
On the last recruitment was told 1 guy failed medical on hearing and another on eyesight. Stupid they dont do it earlier IMO .!
    That would be devastating

ye would be really tough to lose out at that stage. I'm going to hang in there till they tell me otherwise anyway. Should get the day for next test today i reckon
