Domain issue wordpress

I have been working on a wordpress website for someone,
They didnt want it to go live until it was complete,
Therefore the old site was still up and I did the wordpress in a a sub directory eg www.thewebsite.com/wp

Rather than moving the whole wordpress, etc, is it possible to just redirect the domain to the actual wordpress directory?

Why would you not move it? It takes 5 minutes. You can also redirect it using .htaccess but I don't recommend it.

They had someone else set up the wordpress install and the database.
He moved stuff around at the start.

He claims that for him to move it, it would be a few hours work.

Thats why I have been a bit wary about moving the wordpress and wasnt sure what exactly to do , especially with the database!
