Moneybookers CAUTION

    Folks,

BE VERY careful if you are signing up for ANYTHING to do with Moneybookers.

They operate some of the debit Mastercards that are popular for avoiding Ryanair charges, among others.

I recently registered a new account with them, and used a unique address that no one else would ever use, or have reason to, and within a very short period of time, I am getting spam on that account, with my name on it, and the spam is phishing for my mail address, on behalf of an online gaming casino.

How do I know it's Moneybookers? Simple. Their supposedly secure server is the only one in the world that has the mail address that's been used to send mail addressed personally to me, even the machine collecting the mail doesn't use that name to sign on.

There is a "possibility" that the company now operating Moneybookers may have sold their lists on to "associated interest" companies, but being as Moneybookers terms and conditions prohibit the use of their service for payment for on line gaming etc, that's not going to wash.

There is an option on their system to opt out of mail shots and the like, and "related" publicity, which is selected off by default, so make sure you set it before updating, or you WILL be getting spam from this crowd.

I will be following up with the financial regulator and data protection registrar in the UK, as this appears to breach their own privacy code.

    Could get interesting

    You have been warned.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Well seeing as how I just recommended MB to my brother this evening this post caught my eye. If it's true I'd be a little concerned after all if a company cannot stick to its own T&Cs what else might they be capable of ?

Like Steve I use a onetime email address for MB I just checked my inbound email account and I can report than since Dec 2007 the email address has been used by MB themselves, Ryanair and a few people who had a legitimate reason to know of the address. It could all change tomorrow of course but as of today MB have been a good company to deal with based on the past 4 years of dealing with them.

Unfortunately after the 1st of March using MB will not avoid the e6 pppf Ryanair 'admin' fee for flights originating in Ireland or UK but imho it's still a decent card to have especially if you receive payments.

If you can keep track of them those onetime/disposable addresses are very useful, Yahoo offer them for free if your interested.

I've used them for years and I get very little spam.
I get much more on my other email accounts.
