Exactly, you will know there are 20 in Ballincollig if you see BNC020 on a label. I'll try to get the asset tag numbers for the ones I saw over time.

Be handy if you label a cab as EG "Ballincollig Cabinet BNC020" and I can relabel the Shantalla and Mervue cabinets the same way.

I am not sure if they use the BNC001-> BNC999 logic because I saw a label with something like BNC9A7, definiately with a letter inside. Maybe they use hex, but that would be quite strange, I will check the box again.

Maybe fibre run 9 and cab a7 on that run. The pattern will become obvious on a large enough sample I'll wager and then we can infer the fibre subduct routes from that perhaps. :)

I've seen a cabinet with "009" written in some kind of white marker and then a yellow label with "00G" printed on it.

Perhaps the labelling machine simply ran out of numbers!

Not sure if this has been answered before (not coming up on the search) but is eircom going to use vectoring and/or pair bonding on its vdsl2 roll-out?

Yes, eircom will control all the lines in the cabinet and only bitstream will be available to other operators

I remember years ago there was a website you could put your number in to and it told you what exchange you were connected to. Does anyone have that link or know of another way of checking? Thanks!

I will try to collect a few labels and hopefully we can find out what is the logic.

There were two, both gone. The smart and homevision line checkers told you precisely. For now all you have is block allocation but that is not certain especially in Drogheda which has 3 or 4 sub exchanges carved out of the old Drogheda exchange over the 00's

Thanks Sponge Bob. I was pretty certain we were on the Drogheda Exchange but with the Colpe and Deepforde exchanges not being upgraded till 2014 I wanted to be sure. Anyway, with the speeds I am getting, my exchange is definitely further away than those 2 smaller exchanges!!

That big hinge on the right is actually a big alarmed lock. Hinges on left.

It could be a great community project that we have started. Let's hope it's not "griefed" like minecraft :) I've just added two more in Coolock. I know where more are, but I want to pass by them again to ensure accuracy. Streetview is handy though...

What exactly is the box on the left supposed to be? I've seen a few of them around since they started installing.

Well, they've only started replacing hideous grey things with those here. Guess that explains why our internet was so sub-par.

Hmm, doesn't look like they're going up the douglas road at all. Would being 1.7km from a cabinet be any advantage?

It's a 'case'. Big copper cable in from exchange to a frame inside. Small copper cables out from frame to subscribers.

According to eircom there are now 1000 cabs ( they only have 1200 exchanges) so we have a long way to go with the map.

Eircom’s request for a derogation on launch date for Wholesale NGA Services.

ComReg Decision D03/13 mandated that Clause 8.8 of the associated Wholesale Broadband Access (WBA) decision requires that Eircom do not launch Next Generation WBA services prior to 20th May 2013 (except as agreed with ComReg following discussion with industry).

Eircom applied to ComReg on 19th February 2013 for approval to launch Wholesale Next Generation Access (NGA) broadband services on 8th April 2013.

In accordance with D03/13 ComReg considers it appropriate to consult with industry before forming a view on Eircom’s request. ComReg now invites operators and any other interested parties to submit their views on Eircom’s request, including supporting material, to ComReg by 1700 hrs on Thurs 28th February 2013

No. They have no active electronics at all, sure we might as well map every telephone pole. :D

So what the hell is the point of it? It's also numbered as the "real" cabinets are, could eircom be contributing those to the 1000 fibre cabinets number they're toting?

another 6500 odd .... that's without the new cabs to be put in when diverting direct distribution points

Example I took while walking the dog: http://i.imgur.com/NrAzynf.jpg

those extensions on top will hold the DSLAM (NGA cab inks) jumper cross connects when the cab is installed ...

that cab is probably high density so they can't fit the jumper cross connects in the original case, so they add on that bit on top

I cannot see any logic in the order of the labels. Maybe it is a part of the serial number of the VDSL cab, or who knows.
