Albums You Think Are Absolutely Perfect

I get Malice's point and I think that a 'perfect' album is a matter of subjectivity. For me, the perfect album is a matter of consistency in the quality of the songwriting, performance and production.

The perfect album may be measured by some people by the amount of songs that they like on said album. Is that the best barometer to gauge how "perfect" the album is though?

We all have albums that have many of our favorite songs on them but first you have to come up with some criteria that helps to define what exactly a perfect album actually is.

People seem to be just listing their favourite albums here though.

But I wouldn't struggle, that's my point. There is no such thing as a perfect album.

I don't agree with that. I know perfect albums are very hard to come by, but maybe you should listen to these incredible albums. A perfect album for me is one that has no duff/filler songs on it, is very consistent, very very impressive from start to finish and the music is extremely memorable. I consider these albums to perfect from start to finish:

    Rush - 2112/Hemispheres/Moving Pictures
    Dissection
    - The Somberlain/Storm of The Light's bane
    Empyrium
    - Songs of Misty Moors
    Tiamat
    - Wildhoney
    Fields of The Nephilim
    - The Nephilim/Elizium
    Primordial
    - The Gathering Wilderness/To The Nameless Dead
    Scorpions
    - In Trance
    Emperor
    - In The Nightside Eclipse/Anthems To The Welkin at Dusk
    Paradise Lost
    - Icon/Draconian Times
    Iron Maiden
    - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
    Dimmu Borgir
    - Stormblast/Enthrone Darkness Triumphant
    Children of Bodom
    - Something Wild/Hatebreeder
    In The Woods...
    - Omnio
    The Cult
    - Love
    To/Die/For
    - All Eternity/Epilogue
    Cradle of Filth
    - Dusk And Her Embrace/Cruelty And The Beast
    Agalloch
    - The Mantle/Ashes Against The Grain
    Type O Negative
    - October Rust
    U2
    - Boy
    Amorphis
    - ElegyTuonela/Silent Waters
    Mercyful Fate
    - Melissa/Don't Break The Oath
    Anathema
    - Eternity/Judgement
    In Flames
    - The Jester Race
    Megadeth
    - Youthanasia

    Metallica - Ride The Lightning
    Metallica - Master Of Puppets
Guns N' Roses - Appetite For Destruction
Faith No More - Angel Dust
Faith No More - King For A Day,Fool For A Lifetime.
    Slayer - Reign In Blood

These albums are the only ones i can think of were i'd listen to the record from start to finish without reaching for the skip track button. They're not flawless but pretty damn close imo.

Iron Maiden[/B] - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son

Was just coming on to post that, I forgot it in my first post.

Absolutely brilliant album, every bit of it is pure class. Any rock/metal fan should give that album a go. I had completely forgotten how good it was until recently.

Yeah, someone mentioned 'Strays'? Bizarre choice. I thought it was desperately disappointing.

Twas I :D Love the album, and never tire of it.:)

    I don't agree with that.
I wouldn't expect you to since you started the thread :). Like Passenger said, this is really just a thread of people listing their favourite albums or albums they really like.

I any think of a single rock/metal album that is 100% perfect, but all the below are 99.9% for me anyway:

    Metallica - Master of Puppets
Primordial - To the Nameless Dead
    Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernal
    Iron Maiden - Killers
    Therapy? - Troublegum
Cradle of Filth - Cruelty and the Beast

Tempted to put a few more in but I'll leave it at that.

That maybe true, but on my list are albums that I consider to be perfect, and they also happen to be my favourites as well.;)

Classic albums indeed. I can't believe I forgot about 'The Voice of Steel' by Nokturnal Mortom from 2009, it's an utterly incredible album with no bad or okay songs on it. Every single song it really really amazing. I think it's the best symphonic black metal album I've heard since Emperor's and Dimmu Borgir's classic albums.

    Good list IMO
I'd remove the Faith no more ones, and replace them with

    Megadeth - Rust In Peace
    Metallica - AJFA
    Deicide - Legion
(maybe also a Motley Crue album)

    And thats me!

A truly incredible album from start to finish. Musically, lyrically peerless for the 80s. Killers is also immense but Seventh Son tops them all. Maiden at their peak. Pity it was followed by No Prayer.......!

    Meshuggah - Chaosphere, Catch 33 & Nothing

    Tool - Lateralus & 10,000 Days

Mastodon - Crack The Skye & Leviathan

Black Sabbath - Paranoid & Sabotage

Can listen to all of these right through.

    White Pony- Deftones
    Jagged Little Pill- Alanis Morissette

I think a lot of people are mixing up perfection with their favourites. While ...And Justice for All is a superb album, it's a long way from perfection.

Whats perfection? All of people will have listened to their fair share of metal and found their favourites. Surely they're gonna rank their favs as perfect. Now they have become dinosaurs since then, stopped listening to any new metal since Metallica attempted grunge, but that isn't gonna make their opinion less valid. You're never gonna have an album that everyone agrees with. You can pick holes in any classic album.

Physical Graffiti was most odds and sods left over from other Led Zep albums. The first four Led Zep albums rip off old blues players.

Metallica's black album is like a big mac. You can kinda crave it. But once you give it a try, it leaves you feeling empty.

You can find fault with any pointless list of favourites.

Flesh Eaters - A Minute to Pray A Second to Die.

I, personally, am under the illusion it is perfect.

Everybody's idea of perfection is different i suppose. Whilst i may think that Appetite For Destruction is perfect for example, others may not. Whether it be a particular tune or the production, some may find flaws in it. I'd be shocked if there was anything approaching consensus about an album being perfect.

Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory
Ozzy Osbourne - Tribute (The studio stuff doesn't compare to Randy Rhoads live)
    Pink Floyd - The Wall

Christian Death - Only Theatre of Pain

I am so deluded a fanboy in thinking this is just so damn flawless I genuinely believe it really is. And that its not just subjective and so everyone should. Else theres something wrong with them...

There are lots of great albums that I would call my favourites that I can still look at objectively and find fault with. This thread is a matter of personal opinion, no more no less.
Saying that, off the top of my head

Queens of the stone age - Rated R
    Faith No More - Angeldust

    Pretty perfect imo.

Threat Signal - Under Reprisal (It's a shame the two albums after this were mediocre at best)

Killswitch Engage - Alive or Just Breathing

+1. What a fantastic album that is. Haven't been able to get into the rest of their stuff in quite the same way.

Led Zeppelin IV surely ranks as one of the greats, each and every song is perfect.
    Also ACDC Back in black.
While im not a massive ACDC fan, this album is perfect - no filler tracks, each and every track a standalone classic.
