If I thought about it I could come up with loads of metal and non-metal where I like every song.
At the moment top of the list is Surtur Rising by Amon Amarth. I only discovered it (and them) about a month ago but it has reached the stage now where I am becoming addicted to it...playing it all the time. Im a crusty nearly 50 year old git who feels like a teenager again.

This has not happened to me since System of a down about 10 years ago (and AA are pushing my buttons much more) . Totally awsome stuff. Like Black sabbath for the 21st century...at least 2 different riffs per song.

    Roll on Thursday!!

I have only one album that I would consider perfect.

    Dark side of the moon.

Fantastic production, brilliant lyrics and all four musicians at the top of their game. They knew before the album was released what exactly they had created although I doubt they realised just how long it would stay in the charts and to this day it sounds as good as ever.

    Really!?

I was a huge fan of The Fame and The Fame Monster - two excellent albums - but I thought BTW showed a significant dip in quality. The title track is godawful, it's overlong and the hooks aren't nearly up to standard. But to each his own I spose! I'm still looking forward to seeing what she comes out with next.

OK, Computer, I think is one of the most over-rated albums of all time.

Don't get me wrong, it is an excellent album, but IMO, it's predecessor, The Bends, is for me one of the all time greats. The amount of time I have spent listening to that album start to finish is absurd.

    Other albums that I enjoy:

    NIN: The downward spiral
    Sigur Ros: ()

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,398 ✭✭✭McDave

AC/DC's Highway to Hell was their best set of songs. If there's any flaw for me it's that the production is too clean. Powerage and BiB were both better produced in their own ways. Also the original If You Want Blood on Bonfire surpasses the HtH version IMO.

Beatles Blue Album - it's probably cheating. But it is such a classic at this stage.

David Bowie has so many classics. I have to plump for Ziggy Stardust

    Miles Davis's Kind of Blue

    Fleetwood Mac's Rumours

    Led Zeppelin's Four Symbols

    Van Morrison's poetic Champions Compose

The Pixies' Doolittle is an album I keep going back to. Perfect sound and unique vibe.

    Ramones' Rocket to Russia

    Slayer's reign in Blood

I can't think of any perfect album except for The Bends, every track is good. Its one of the best albums I've ever heard but Ok Computer is just as good but imperfect! It has one non musical track, Fitter Happier, which is largely skippable though entertaining (because its not really a song). But some of the songs, soundscapes and ideas are more evocative and powerful than on The Bends which is a straight ahead rock album. Similarly, Led Zep 4 has 1 total dud, track 2, and Going to California is a bit schmaltzy but everything else is really good (Four Sticks) to inspired (Black Dog, Stairway, When the Levee Breaks). So I don't think perfection is important because you can have a collection of really good songs but none which are inspired and that would technically be a perfect album because there is no filler but then you could have an album with 4 inspired tracks and 3 filler tracks, and yes they're equivalent and you can say really good isn't perfect, inspired or non better is perfect, but no such album exists for me, so an album is perfect for me if there is no filler, but then there are albums which are just as good or better even though they have filler because they have enough inspired songs to push it to the same level or further relative to a "perfect" album.

First off, GNR UYI would have been a perfect album - if it were one and not two albums! Secondly you couldnt possibly argue that bands like Nirvana or Motorhead can have 4 perfect albums

I think the word perfection needs to be defined - unmatchable, an almost impossible level. To say that any one band (even the likes of Zep, Pantera etc) have 4 perfect albums is risible imo

  • Registered Users Posts: 15,065 ✭✭✭✭Malice

I agree with Max_Power1. A lot of people seem to have a very loose definition of perfection and have decided it means "albums I really like".
