DHH stands for Diverse hip hop a relatively new site thats around a year old now but is gaining popularity, very good imo for new music and news etc even though it tends to cater more for your commercialised rappers but also dabs a little in the american underground scene

A bit like most of us here, DHH wasnt happy with MTV's top 10 MC's so they went ahead and made their own, giving a brief description why they think so and so deserves the position etc.

its a bit commercial too but in fairness its shaping up to be a lot more respectful than MTV's which isnt hard.

10 to 7 is available and its going to be updated each day till we get to number 1, see what you think of it.

    here's the list so far
    10 :

We start out our list with MMG’s very own Meek Mill. This guy has managed to do a whole lot in 2011 from his “Dream Chasers” mixtape to his huge street bangers. You can find out why we placed him in the #10 spot after the jump.

    2011 High Points:

Signing to Rick Ross “Maybach Music Group”
Dropping huge street bangers like “I’m A Boss”, “Tupac Back”, “House Party”.
Releasing a successful mixtape “Dreamchasers” which was downloaded approximately over 500k times (Dat Piff Numbers)

    Top Tracks:

    “Tupac Back” ft. Rick Ross
“I’m A Boss” (Remix) ft. Rick Ross, DJ Khaled, T.I., Birdman, Lil Wayne & Swizz Beatz
    “House Party” ft. Young Chris

Whether you like Meek Mill or not it sure as hell is impossible to get away from his music. Meek Mill has managed to build a buzz without dropping his debut album. He first got dropped from Grand Hustle, after that he somehow dropped music and got signed by Rick Ross’s new label “Maybach Music Group”. After getting a second chance to prove himself Meek Mill personally wrote 2 street bangers for MMG’s first album “Self Made Vol.1″ and we know those tracks as “Tupac Back” and “I’m A Boss”. These tracks were written mainly by Meek Mill and handed to Rick Ross to put together his verse and add it on the tape. That shows that Meek doesn’t have to rely on Rick Ross to make his own successful tracks. On top of all this buzz from these singles he won the “Best New Artist” award at the Sucker Free Awards, Made XXL’s freshman list, and released a highly successful mixtape entitled “Dreamchasers”. After the mixtape become such a huge success he even managed to ink a deal with Ecko to drop his “Dream Chasers” clothing line. At the end he did all of this in 2011 without even dropping an album, that alone get’s him the #10 spot on DHH’s Top MC’s of 2011 list.

50 Cent lands at the #9 spot on our list for the Top MC’s of 2011. From dropping countless freestyle tracks (enough to make 2 mixtapes) to dropping a full mixtape “The Big 10″ and being featured on countless hit songs, 50 Cent is still in the rap game and people keep counting him out. Check out why he made the #9 spot after the jump.

    2011 High Points:

Dropping countless freestyles from SK freestyles to SMS Freestyles, enough material to make 2 mixtapes
Dropped a highly successful mixtape “The Big 10″ downloaded approximately over 1 million times. (50 Cent’s Facebook Numbers)
Hopped on countless hit songs from other artists such as Nicole Scherzinger (Right There), Jeremih (Down On Me), Mann (Buzzin), Lloyd (Let’s Get It In) and more.

    Top Tracks:

Jeremih and 50 Cent’s “Down On Me” – landed on the #3 spot for Billboard Hot 100, went 2x platinum.
“I Just Wanna” ft. Tony Yayo – Landed on Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts with no promo.
“Put Ya Hands Up” – Landed at the #1 spot for YouTube’s most viewed videos for 2 days, ranked up 5 million views in less than 3 days.

Now a lot of people hate on 50 Cent for no reason and are wondering how he even landed at the #9 spot. First this guy dropped over 30 freestyles from the SK and SMS series and that’s enough to make 2 mixtapes. Then the whole 2010 and 2011 he was jumping on other people’s tracks and one being Jeremih’s “Down On Me” which landed at the #3 spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 list and went on to go 2x platinum. Aside from jumping on other artists tracks he even dropped a full mixtape entitled “The Big 10″ which featured 10 tracks that were intended to be on his new album. He introduces his new artists Kidd Kidd and Paris on the tape as well as Tony Yayo. The tape was downloaded over 1 million times and still counting and generally received well reviews. On top of all of that he still managed to do his business thing and released his new headphone line “SMS Audio” and his new “Street King” initiative to help feed 1 Billion people in Africa. With all of this being said I feel like a lot of people count him out on a lot of things and still think he doesn’t have it. In 2011 he proved that he still does and I expect something big this year.

Young Jeezy lands at the #8 spot on our list for the Top MC’s of 2011. With his highly delayed album TM:103 finally out did it live up to the hype? Check out why he landed at the #8 spot on our list after the jump.

    Previously: #10 – Meek Mill | #9 – 50 Cent

    2011 High Points:

Dropped 2 amazing street mixtapes “The Real Is Back” Part 1 & 2, both tapes being downloaded over 300k times (Dat Piff Numbers)
Thug Motivation 103: Hustlerz Ambition pushed 220k units the first week with no major single
Landing all over the Billboard’s and opening up BET’s Hip Hop Awards

    Top Tracks:

“I Do” ft. Jay-Z & Andre 3000 – Landed at the #61 spot on Billboard Hot 100 without any promotion.
    “F.A.M.E.” ft. T.I.
    “Leave You Alone” ft. Ne-Yo

Even after a whole lot of people (including me) were counting out Young Jeezy he hits us with 2 major street mixtapes “The Real Is Back” 1 and 2 plus his highly delayed album TM:103 which I’m sure everybody was surprised it dropped. While Rick Ross was making fun of Jeezy for not dropping, Jeezy was working on the album, dropped it, pushed 220k 1st week and made Rick Ross push his album back due to his singles not getting much play. What goes around comes around and Jeezy just slapped Ross and proved him wrong. On top of all of this he got his clothing line going well, he started out the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards with T.I. I think it’s safe to say Young Jeezy ain’t going no where no matter what people say.

    7:

After battling to release his album Lupe Fiasco lands at the #7 spot for our Top MC’s of 2011. From dropping his highly anticipated “L.A.S.E.R.S.” album to calling Obama a Terrorist, you can check out the reasons as to why he is #7 after the jump.

    Previously: #10 – Meek Mill | #9 – 50 Cent | #8 – Young Jeezy

    2011 High Points:

Dropped “L.A.S.E.R.S.” which pushed 200k 1st week and later on went Gold.
Has huge singles “The Show Goes On” went 2x platinum and since has been his highest charted song, “Out My Head” and “Words I Never Said” were both big on the charts as well.
Performed at several big events like 2011 VMA’s.

    Top Tracks:

“The Show Goes On” – Went 2x platinum, landed at the #9 spot on Billboard Hot 100
“Words I Never Said” ft. Skylar Grey – raised a lot of controversy thus getting the track buzz.
“Out Of My Head” ft. Trey Songz

The kid Lupe Fiasco had to fight Atlantic Records a lot just to get his album “LASERS” to be finally released on March. He had riots of fans in front of the Atlantic Records building yelling to get Lupe’s album released and well the label had to listen and his album finally dropped in March. This was his biggest album yet and most controversial from his first single “The Show Goes On” which was his biggest single yet going on to be #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 and going 2x platinum. After getting flack for releasing his 2nd single “Words I Never Said” ft. Skylar Grey which was aimed towards the Government of America and just the higher ups as we know them. Then he dropped his third single “Out Of My Head” ft. Trey Songz which was a major hit for the ladies. On top of all this he even had time to go on Bill O’Reilly’s show and discuss why he called Barack Obama a terrorist. Bottom line is that Lupe Fiasco has spoken his mind as a rapper and that’s why he’s an amazing artist. You don’t get that many rappers that do that and that’s why he lands at the #7 spot.

agree with lupe and 50 on the list so far, remember this is going to be somewhat of a commercial list.

i dont like meek mill or jeezy's music so for obvious reason i dont think they should be on the list but in fairness they deserve a mention as both had good years.

i know DHH will include rappers like kendrick lamar and j.cole, game etc so it will be interesting to see who gets the number 1 spot considering they give a pretty good description of why they have selected someone and why they think they deserve it.:)
