Hinterland is on US Netflix. It was on s4c and BBC Wales before BBC4. Quite grim but definitely going for the scandi drama feel. I enjoyed it anyway. In English and Welsh.

Happy Valley is on there too, excellent drama from BBC 1

Watched Happy Valley last weekend and thought it was excellent.

Definitely lacking any kind of humour, think they went too far with the brooding but still.

I would go so far as to say Happy Valley was the best thing on TV this year. Definitely on British TV, probably even US TV.

    Borgia

Two versions came out much the same time. The Neil Jordan one with Jeremy Irons was ok

This one has Belfast actor Mark Ryder in it and also John Dorman who was Rawls in The Wire. Good jaysus, some of the public executions they have are horrific  It's politics all the the place, misstresses every night of the week and the odd bit of war.

It's a good watch and the 3rd season came out last month. I think it's superior then the Neil Jordan series. Not a great show but worth a watch

    Two recommendations on US Netflix

Ida (2013), Paweł Pawlikowski's austere story of a novice Polish nun who must seek out her only relative, a former Stalinist judge, before she can take her vows, uncovering a murky past. A modern classic.

Big Night (1996), Stanley Tucci's debut film about immigrant Italian brothers running a restaurant in New Jersey. The conflict between the ambition of one brother and the integrity of the other brings their business to the brink of bankruptcy. Though set in the US, it's a distinctly European film.
The ending in particular reminded me of the ending of A Hijacking (2012) where the release of the tension pent-up throughout the film shows what came before in an entirely new perspective.

Do Netflix usually add a load of Christmas films in December or do they just put what's already on under a Christmas banner on the main page?

They've been steadily adding christmas movies since Nov 1st. There's not that many on it the rest of the year though.

I've recommended them before but the 30 for 30 series is exceptional TV and well worth watching. I've series one on Blu-Ray and currently watching the second series as they're added to netflix. As someone who hates sports, all sports I'm constantly amazedby how captivated and enthralled I am by these docs. Watching Brian and the Boz atm and loving it, I know the Boz from his acting endeavours and not his sports but the documentary is one of the lost touching and tender I've seen in a long time, a portrait of a deeply flawed individual whose willing to admit his faults and isn't afraid to examine them.

By all accounts a very lacklustre lneup of new additions there.

However! I cant wait for the next Bill Burr standup.

^ Couple of good documentaries there.

Brooklyn Nine Nine has grown on me. I wasn't that impressed with the start of Season 1 so stopped watching. I caught a few episodes near the end though and it seems to have improved. It's by no means a classic comedy show but it's better than the likes of 2 and a Half Men or The Big Bang Theory.
