This thread seems to be all complaints lately. I come in here for recommendations!

Maybe it would be better to change the name of the thread to Netflix - Recommendations and the whinging might stop ?

Yup, like with Stranger Things recently, I come into this thread for "Film Recommendations", not for discussion of the latest Netflix series that I haven't watched yet.

But, but the producers talk of it as an 8 hour movie!

How about we change the title to "Netflix Recommendations & chat thread"?

But then someone will come along and complain about something, because people just like to complain.

Maybe change the name of the forum too, it seems it's not just for "Films".

You did the same style of "joke" last time this was brought up. Thanking someone for their film recommendation, when they were pointing out the endless discussion of TV discussion in this thread. Maybe try being more original?

So do I, just suggesting a thread move/rename might be in order.

    Anyway, here's some new additions:

Million Dollar Arm (2014) starring Jon Hamm.

The Tenant, old Roman Polanski movie. (1976)

Pretty Baby, old Brooke Shields movie. (1978)

    Paper Planes (2014)

    Hard Eight (1996)

    April's Fools Day (1986)

    The Burning Plain (2006)

    It Started in Naples (1960)

Leaving after this month that are on my list:

And Now For Something Completely Different
    Betty Blue
    Siberian Education
    The Fabulous Stains
    Klown
    Vanilla Sky
    Queer Duck The Movie
    Fringe (The TV Series)

Watched "the motivation" last night, a doc on pro skate board tournament that the top 8 street skaters in the world compete in every year. There were some interesting insights to the contrasting lives and lifestyles of the competitors in the build up to the actual tournament.

Pretty easy watching and just about the right length for a casual viewing by a non skate boarder like myself. Probably a 7/10

If you liked that, check out 'all this mayhem' it's about a pair of Australian brothers who broke into the US boarding circuit. Do not google it or watch the trailer first, trust me. You won't be disappointed.

Thought that was brilliant. Lords of Dogtown is on there too and is alright (nowhere near as good as the documentary Dogtown & Z-Boys though).

When is it going? Watched it originally on Netflix, thinking of rewatching.

Is it linked to the tv series of the same name?

Is it a good film who stars in it?

The fundamentals of caring with Paul Rudd is a decent watch.

Fringe is scheduled to leave August 14th: http://unogs.com/countrydetail/ Go the Ireland and click Videos about to expire.

I watched Tallulah and The Invitation tonight. I recommend both, especially the latter.

Also out worldwide today: Last Chance U and an animated series based on the Dreamworks movie Home.

Hard Eight is a decent watch. Philip Baker Hall plays a conman type character who helps people such as John C Reilly making a few quid by swindling a Las Vegas casino and Gwyneth Paltrow with a place to spend the night. There's not much conning to be had and it turns into a weird drama character study type thing like Anderson's Punch Drunk Love.

When's it leaving? Always wondered if I should give it a look as I like procedurals and X-Files kinda stuff but was always turned off by the Dawson's Creek guy.

Cheers will definitely check this out.

Just to enforce the above. All This Mayhem is absolutely brilliant!

Also, The Bones Brigade doco (US Netflix) is excellent also.

Watch Danger 5 if you haven't already. It's a brilliant Australian period spoof.

Films coming in August: Creed, The Lobster, Sicario, Brooklyn, The Little Prince: http://www.joe.ie/movies-tv/heres-all-the-good-stuff-coming-to-netflix-in-august-2/554843

August 15th. And the Dawson's Creek guy is fine. It's a fantastic show once it gets going later on, you can skip ahead in Season 1 to get through it in time.

Does anyone know if there's been any recent estimates of subscriber numbers in Ireland?

Last Chance U is a good watch. It's about a prolific college (American) football school and the guys trying to make it to the pro's. A good insight to the coaches too.

    X+Y

Teenage kid who's great at maths but struggles with social interaction skills, building relationships and the like. It's a more sensitive (and probably more accurate) look at someone described as "on the autism spectrum". Better than things like Rain Man or Mecury Rising.

Of those incoming films that Occono mentioned:

Sicario was very overrated I felt. Its narrative seemed a bit muddled to me - one of those "does it want to be action, thriller, character study" confusing things. It's a decent enough watch, just didn't live up to the hype for me.

The Lobster is probably a marmite film in that you love or hate it. I thought it was great, just utterly absurd and a poignant satire on dating, relationships and such matters.

Thought Creed was a good entry to the franchise.

Haven't seen Brooklyn so Ill give that a look.

Thank you both for the recommendation, I think that was the movie I was searching for originally, and then stumbled across the other one and stuck it on! Have it added to my list now!

Half way through "stranger things" Netflix original series, really enjoying it so far.

Fittest on Earth, the documentary on the Crossfit Games is a decent watch. I'm not a fan of crossfit really but you have to admire the folk at the top of their game.

Try to guess which one isn't taking some sort of HGH ... you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Disagree about Sicario thought it was great. Brooklyn is good. Can't wait to see Creed.
