hey all, just a quick issue with storage heating in the apartment ive moved into. theres three storage heaters in the place, all of them have a off peak switch beside them and the main heater in the front room has a boost switch on the wall beside it.

none of the heaters have any dials or anything on them that could be set or changed but there are two dials on the wall in the hall, one marked "master control for all storage heating" with an adjustable dial just marked higher and lower while the other wall mounted dial is marked "room temperature boost control" with an adjustable dial marked more heat and less heat. this also has a smaller button with on and off written on it.

can anyone explain what these do? is the master control for the amount stored or the speed and amount of heat released? is the boost control just for the few times i turn the boost switch on?

storage heating is a pain in the arse. you need a degree in electrical engineering to figure out how they work and once you do that you need a psychic and a contact in met eireann to make sure they work when they should

    any help appreciated, cheers

the master control in the hall regulates the input to the storage heaters

it was the old way of doing things-you turn it up for more stored heat

the dial in the living area is just a boost for when living, area has cooled-you'll pay a higher rate for using this most of the time

the storage heaters will have controls-prob under a flap

I do agree with the "M cebee" view....

The master controller regulator is just to control temperature of all storage heaters....which means the input to the storage heaters

And this controller regulator is just in using to provide the huge amount of the heat in the winters...
