Times are in; as noted this Sunday on the test server:

And in my infinite wisdom, I booked time with the GF to go to the cinema at this time. Guess I won't be seeing Hossin anytime soon...

The event killed the test server, what had started as a small challenge grew into the largest planetside event... 14000 people tried to log onto the test server at the same time .... and it murdered the login server first, then the test server itself.

The event then moved to woodman, miller put up a nice fight there, but it was like being pecked to death by ducks, so many br1 nc troops, poor gits got pasted.

The event will be rescheduled, but no eta as to when.

Well I know Miller's test guild was about 2x the members that Hossin could take so I was expecting us to have nice numbers :P

*edit* From what I saw on twitter it appears the number of instances for the new user training (people did not click the box to skip the training) is what crashed the server.

I was on tonight and noticed a huge purple plasma ball like explosion lighting up the sky. It was like a nuclear blast going off. It would also shoot through the sky and was massive. It was really cool to look at what ever it was.
Is this something new they've added?

A "feature" from yesterday's patch made Lasher balls huge; should be fixed now (always the VS nerfs after papa Vanu gives us new toys :( ) :)

Dam, I should've recorded it. It was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game. It light up the sky like a purple Hydrogen bomb.

has anyone played this since the recent optimisation patch, might give it another go and see if my laptop can handle it now

Can't interact with anything ingame and just gets disconnected after a few seconds, it's like it instantly disconnects on login and the people you see ingame is just a screenshot

I don't get crashes, but I've encountered the non-interaction bug a few times. It's very intermittent

I booted this up for the first time in a few months, had to leave it for about an hour while it installed a million updates. I didn't notice any difference though.

There's a recent IP change on all servers that's wrecking havoc (it's the main source, to fix it once you log in run towards the next zone until you disconnect and it's likely to be fixed when you log in).

When time of the day are the servers generally most full? And do tank zergs still happen? I love a good tank zerg :pac:

Not many tank zergs these days outside some alerts if TR decide to push. As for prime time it's usually weekends or around 8pm.

Does the game still have a good population? Not seen much talk of it lately.

Good enough; you don't see multiple continent locks but there's at least two or three 48+ fights going on most nights.

I'm on Miller most nights and there are still queues at peak hours. For Planetside 2 to be any real fun though you need to join a good Outfit and not some random squad that just follows the zerg. The outfit I'm in is very well organized. Were on teamspeak and being told what to do and where to go. The guy's leading it are talking to other outfits and it gets very tactical.

Well at least on Miller all three factions have the over arching inter outfit channels (not sure how NC's side works but they appear to be more organized in the last month or so) but I don't know if that goes acoss the other servers.

There's a brilliant 1 year anniversey PS2 package up for sale; for $39.99 that includes every factions AV specific weapon (bling bling version!), the highest damage sniper rifle, unique camo etc. but most importantly the heroic boost (+50% exp & resources for 6 months) which usually cost $50 on it's own. Even though I owned all but 4 weapons the heroic boost alone was enough to make me buy the package :)

I've to decide if I'm going to play this for another 6 months. If I am, then I'll definitely be getting it.

I'm finding the lack of being able to drop pod in on squad deploy to be a bit limiting - though I can see why they did it. Far too easy to take out attacking sundies with it.

Plus the heroic boost only comes around every so often.
defo buying it but won't be using it till i start playing properly again, stopped 2 months ago when i reached rank 92, last levels are time consuming.

Edit- scratch that, the heroic is only showing as XP and not resource! pity

Went back, picked up the pack and spent about two hours playing tonight. Great fun was had, along with 408 cert points. Ridiculous XP with that boost and a few tank sprees, plus a biolab alert saved for the TR with 6 seconds remaining on a VS cap. Planetside, I missed you.

I'm hoping to convince some of my friends to get back into it. I really miss having 3 of us piling into a Liberator while another one or two provide support in Reavers. And it really is better actually knowing the sniper and being able to trust that he'll be watching your back as the rest of you head down the hill to storm that control point, knowing that the engineer will actually fix your MAX and your medic won't be faffing about like an imbecile instead of providing some goddamn healing...

Come join the right side on Miller Sarky and you can have all of the above and then some :P

Nothing as fun as your outfit leader calling for enforcer squad to go Sundy hunting through the enemy zerg...

I was driving a Sundy out of SnowSpear tower on Easimir (Miller) yesterday and what did I see? A formation of galaxies, liberators, and escort fighters flying by on their way elsewhere. Was a lovely sight to see, and not one I've seen like that in a while either.

It's a pity that most of my outfit aren't really active at the moment so there's only ever two or three of us online at any one time; making liberator runs a prospect of jumping between the bombadieer & rear-gunner seats :P

It's a great time to get back into Planetside 2 after the optimisation update. Plays like a dream now and i've noticed lots of new players (even queues for Esamir and Amerish at primetime :O ). For those of you on Miller VS looking for active outfits check out DIGT (biased). Very active and has made changes recently to be more competitive. VC and DWG also worth a look. Message Gaunteh ingame if you need any info. :)

I can give info on VC (Vanu Corporation) for those interested; been with them for almost a year now (nightly squads, focus on joint ops etc.).

Oh and someone posted this on Reddit; this is all in game current version PS2 playable with out any issues for a decent PC.
