My mother got a cake saying congratulations on it for my 17th.
    I asked why -
She replied she was surprised I lived that long....

I think she should have just admitted it was the last cake in the shop.

    I'm 31 now, they're not always right.

It's not too far fetched to suggest we could live forever*

Ultimately we die because cells begin to die or lose their ability to function properly, if we can come up with a method of repairing, rejuvenating or replacing those cells we could live forever.

*"Forever" being as long as we have a habitable environment.

The advances in science will be pretty amazing within the next 50 years or so, with nano and further on pico technology on the horizon we could well live for thousands of years or so!

    50 a day!?!

I'm a smoker myself but that works out not too much south of €25 a day / €175 a week!
The end of the week usually involves rolling my own.
    I'm not a banker. :)

I would imagine that I could.
I haven't smoked or drank in my life (of course I'm only 17) but I have no intentions of starting. And I'm not overweight. I don't really eat very healthy but I don't put on weight and I don't have any heart problems, or problems with any organs really. Not allergic to anything and have no diseases in the family.

Of course, I'd make sure to stay as healthy and fit when I start getting old.
Last thing I'd want is to be practically brain dead and not be able to easily get around.
And of course I still want to be up-to date with the latest technology and stuff at that age :P

    Alcohol is fine in moderation.
A few pints at the weekend won't kill you.
Just don't delude yourself into thinking that you can have a few smokes when you're drinking.
    It never works.
You'll just end up drinking to justify your nicotine habit.
Cigarettes should be classified alongside Heroin.

I'm not suggesting that you drink. In fact, you are to be admired for being 17 and not drinking in this society.
    Just don't ever smoke.

    36.
    Obese.
    Type 2 diabetes.
25 years smoking (currently about 50 a day)
    Heavy drinker (borderline alcoholic).
    High blood pressure.
    Highly stressed.

I'm hoping to make it to 40 due to the healthy food I eat.
    Ah would you stop!
You'll be here in 5 years time I bet.
