Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I like the look of the F800ST. Ill be testing it at a dealer once i get by license back from the dvla.

Ill probably try out the F800S & GS while im there. The dealer said today that while im at it i should also try the 1200ST (ahh scary size. lol)

I'm after something which will do for my daily commute (1200 is excessive) and good for weekend touring and occasional long distance travel abroad.

Can anyone recommend similar sports touring bikes so i can make an informed choice?

I use my K1200rs on my daily commute, granted it can be a bit thirsty, but its still a great bike for daily use.

The F800ST is fairly unique and its economy is virtually unrivalled. The new Honda Crossrunner is probably the closest from a riding position and dynamics point of view. Yamahas TDM 900 is a parallel twin but its a bigger and heavier bike. From a power and size point of view, the Jap 600cc nakeds (Bandit/Hornet/Fazer) are closest.

If you are buying one,get the Chris Pfeiffer special edition!!

I really wanted the F800 last year when I was trading in my Honda NT700 but the BMW dealers around Dublin really only wanted BMW trade-ins and weren't that interested so I ended up going for a suzuki vstrom 650 which is similar enough and a deal cheaper to have serviced.
I've been very happy with the v-strom since and its a lovely ride.
The F800ST uses a belt instead of a chain which has its own pros & cons.

The vstrom 650 has peaked my interest. More of an upright seating position which I like. I'll add it to my test ride list.

New SV is very good, by all accounts.

Others ? ....One of the new Triumphs? XC800 looks good. Triumph Scrambler ?

The new CBR600F is a good daily rider.

I commute by Harley, and the size is invisible when you get used to it, and great in traffic. The Sportster 1200 would be good, too. Narrow twins and singles are all good for traffic work......

As for belt v chain, belt is brilliant. Clean, dry, lube-free, quiet, no transmission snatch......do you lose some bhp ? Probably. But anymore than a dry/rusty/worn chain..? ...wouldn't think so...

You don't want to acknowledge that as truth because, deep down in places you don't talk about at the Green Party, you want me on that road, you need me on that road. We use words like freedom, enjoyment, sport and community. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent instilling those values in our families and loved ones. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the tax revenue and the very freedom to spend it that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise I suggest you pick up a bus pass and get the ********* ********* off the road”
