A friend is retiring soon and wanted to take a 3 month holiday in perth australia.I did some research for her and the costs are off the beam, its about 200$ a day for a house or mobile home, she was going to stay in the same location and thought the rent would be similar to here, about 800 to 1000 a month, seems she would only get a week in perth for that.

Rents are high in Perth. Plus, nobody will rent a place for three months - six is the usual minimum. Plus, rented properties are let unfurnished.

All bets are off if you go for the short-stay tourist let, where you can get a lease for any amount of time, however short, and properties are let fully furnished and equipped. But rents are much, much higher than for "ordinary" lettings.

If your friend is flexible she might be able to organise housesitting - you live in someone's house while they are travelling, look after the place, feed the pets and so forth and in return you get free accommodation. A lady of mature age would probably be considered a desirable housesitter. Google "housesitting Perth" for some websites on which housesitting opportunities are advertised. She might be able to line up a couple of houses, or even one house, to cover the bulk of her holiday, and "fill in the gaps", so to speak, by renting a chalet at a caravan park, which you can do from around $11/night low season.

Housesitting can be limiting. If there's pets involved - and there usually is - then you can't head off for a five-night trip out of town, for example. On the other hand, it occasionally comes with the use of the homeowner's car.

Is that a misprint 11$/night low season or 110$.

Sorry, yes, that was a typo. Thank you for spotting it. Chalets start around $110/night in the low season.

A 3 month holiday in Perth? You'd be struggling to fill 3 days there!
