18th dec, I think. there is a sign on the door... I wonder how long it will last, I would imagine that there will be changes in legislation to cover vaping soon enough.

There's already a kiosk in Tesco and one of the discount shop type places sells them too. There's an element of fad to it too - there's a cycle of fad shops appearing everywhere then vanishing - cash for clothes / gold was the last one, retro sweets, etc etc

Regulation is inevitable (of the vapes, not faddy shops!)

Oh, this one has a sit down area set up, like a library, I suppose its a throw back to the old gentleman's rooms where you could sip a fine brandy and smoke a cigar ... Strictly no ladies allowed you know!!

Went to the new hot chocolate place that's next to the book shop on the main st. The Coffee is really nice. The hot chocolate is ok. They make chocolates on the premises too.

I tried to order coffee on sunday but there was 3 people on front of me and it was incredibly slow. Had the kids with me so gave up. I'll try again another day. Was hot chocolate €4.50? It'd want to be nice for that price.

    What's the d&c shop?

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,436 ✭✭✭ixus

Chocolate is class. The two owners used to work in K Club. When i tried it, one of them took me through a sample of the days chocolate, what order to eat for most enjoyment.

    A nice alternative.

Oh yes, sorry. Is it a bar or just a nightclub? I've never seen the doors open yet

Three of us went in We each ordered a different hot chocolate. I also ordered an espresso because I wanted to try the coffee as well. Each of us left our hot chocolate over half full. It just wasn't that nice. We didn't try any of the actual chocolates or food.

The espresso was one of the best I've had in Maynooth. The only challenger is picadaros for espresso.

I think it was but to be honest I wasn't paying attention. Kids will probably like the hot chocolate. I'd stick to the coffee if I was you.

The snacks/desserts/chocolates looked a little pricey but looked amazing. I didn't try them but I will the next time I'm in there for coffee.

I think d&C refers to the duke and coachman. The pub that replaced mantra.
There's a nightclub upstairs called Mischief.

Mischief already has a rating of three out of five stars on facebook. Judging on the comments the opening night was a bit of a mess.

I'm disappointed to hear others had the same experience with the hot choc I did, was hoping it was just because I had it opening weekend & they messed up somehow cos they were busy. It just tasted like mildly flavoured milk, certainly not the decadent hot chocolate I was expecting- I threw it away within a couple of minutes trying it. Very surprising from a specialist chocolate shop.

Mischief just changed the name of the old Mantra Facebook page

Is it possible the milk chocolate that we are used to in this country is crap and that there's is the real deal? We're just used to the "norm". Like chinese and pizza. I haven't tried the hot chocolate but everything else is high quality. Thought it was worth asking the question.

what Raminahobbin said is what I thought. It tasted too milky. But even the milk tasted watery. I wondered if maybe they were using skimmed and full fat might have been better. I've had latte's that were thicker in texture. But even then it didn't taste strongly of chocolate. Maybe make it full fat and double the amount of chocolate added.

The chocolate in Ireland has less cocoa than other countries, so if anything, it should be tasting more choclatey, not less, if its more 'real' :-)

I really don't think it was anything to do with the quality of the chocolate, it just tasted like there wasn't enough in it. Like it was just a cup of hot milk with a half a teaspoon of something in it. Colour wise, it was cream coloured/off white, not even remotely brown/chocolatey, so I really think they just don't put much in it at all.

Not sure how many were let go at Intel, rumour was 500 at time, as they never released figures.

HP staff look to be in trouble now:

500 gone, HP Inc to fully close over 12 months.

HPE, who employ the bulk of the people on the site, are not affected. Doesn't help the 500 but its not at catastrophic as it sounds.

Intel investing 7bln in semi conductor factory in Arizona. Not sure impact on Leixlip or how much Trump effect on decision. Interesting timing though

Apparently that's a bit of alternative facts... the factory was built about 5 yrs ago and sat unused. They are now going to use it to keep trump off their backs about US investment. Don't have any knock on effects to Ireland as they make different stuff

I heard a few political representatives saying the whole site was going and the IDA were seeking a new occupier
Is there not a lot of office space in there rented out to a bank/ financial institution.

There's a lot of HPE staff on contract to financial institutions.
