Any craic around on Sunday with the 2 road races?

There’s a “festival” in the harbour field on Sunday

    ooh, what kind of festival?

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,175 ✭✭✭angeldelight

The Royal Canal Greenway Festival apparently! Maynooth news shared it on Facebook, not many details though

The Harbour Field was transferred to the council for a consideration (minute fraction of its value if it was zoned commercial/residential) ages ago; but with covenants preventing non amenity use. KCC own it entirely.

It had remained owned by the Nall-Cain's even after Carton itself was sold but was already effectively given over to the town. I believe that Carton Avenue may still be under that same old setup - theoretically owned by the Nall Cains but under KCC control and protected.

Geraldine Hall is similar. KCC own it in trust for the people of Maynooth. Scouts have a 99 year lease from the council for it.

Do the scouts own the neighbouring hall? Could the ICA not rent from them?

Kind of to question 1 - it's leased from the council for 99 years.
And no to question 2. The hall is already in constant use.

I see there's a Costa going into manor mills.

Wonder is it in the Cicero unit, there was work started on that Sunday.

Natural Bakery opened today I think.

Between O'Briens, Costa, Natural bakery, bagel stop, Chill, Ice cream shop - Manor Mills is effectively turning into a food court.

I assumed that might have gone dead due to the planning required. Odd that Natural Bakery didn't need any change of use then though

    The Gatehouse had closed:
Hi folks, we have closed the restaurant and sold the remaining 10 years of our lease . We are concentrating on the catering side of our business and have sourced another kitchen in Maynooth for this purpose . Still the same email, Facebook and website ( to be updated).
Thanks to all our loyal customers over the last 5 years. It’s been our pleasure to serve you, stay in touch. Regards, Alan O’Regan.

Selling the lease suggests it'll be open as another restaurant soon

The scanned planning documents for the shop at the end of Main Street (opposite The Avenue) confirm it is Ely applying.

Is that not Maynooth Jewellers (&antiques)? They're definitely still open & owned by Hugh & Ger Cash afaik, I'm not aware of any separate antiques business.

There were still some, but far less than before, antiques in the rear rooms of the jewelers last time I was there

Maximus sign down and inside stripped out? Maybe just a refit

Skip outside the former Gatehouse so that'll probably be open soon

And the builders are in for the Thai at Greenfield. With the Donovan's refit and some works at Mulcahys there's a lot of change in a short time there

Maynooth continuing to specialise in being where you open your *second* branch then. Red Torch, MaMs and Kin Khao already

Been hoping for Bunsen to open for a long time. It would clean me out.

Never heard of Yeahburger. Hope it's high quality burgering.

Is Maximus gone? Pretty unceremonious exit!

There's a good chance its just a refit - the kit-out is about 20 years old (it was much the same bar the TV screens for prices when I was in school).

Heard from a reliable source it’s a totally new refit & menu.

A new menu. What can they add now. Fried milk?!

Well if how long it takes the site to load is an indicator I'm not going to be in a hurry for a burger

Or a late one if the Maynooth ones keeps the same times as the Navan one. Can't see any "gourmet burger" restaurant taking much business from the Avenue or pubs like Brady's or O'Neills.

    HOURS
    M-Th 5p–10p
    F-Sa 12p–10p
    Su 12p–10p

Would imagine the times are due to footfall. Maynooth would be different.

None of the burgers in Maynooth come anywhere close to a Bunsen or the like. Not a hint of it.

A quick turn around soot like that would do raging business imho.
