Gap is now 18c between the cheapest in Palmerstown and the Circle K here!

I don't normally worry about the savings on petrol but that is over €5 more on just 30 litres of fuel.

FWIW, Tesco offering 5c/10c off per litre per 50/100 EUR spent on groceries

Some sub-999 justifying anti social stuff in the harbour today at about 6.

Maynooth Garda station - shut and not answering the phone, car outside. So on to the District HQ:
Leixlip Garda station - apparently 24h, not answering the phone. So on to the Divsional HQ:
Naas Garda station - definitely 24h, not answering the phone

Suspect the chances they'd have dispatched whoever was in Maynooth the 150m down the road was nil anyway, but I didn't even get to ask!

So spend 50/100 and get the same price or more than the rest of north kildare.

the apple green at celbridge is 8-9c cheaper, often handy if travelling on m4 to pop in and then come in by maxol and smile smugly at your savings.

Maynooth is getting a 24 hour gym, unit 22 carton park.

I wouldn't have thought there was much demand for this? Seems excessive. Are there many 24 hour gyms outside of cities?

Is that the one at the end beside boots ? Don't think there's ever been anything in there

Might be used for people working in Intel on shift.

If it's like the Flyefit model, then it doesn't take much to extend opening hours from 11pm to 5am as it's pretty much self service. It's essentially just for the cleaning crew.
The town could really use a specialist gym as many people using the Glenroyal et. al. aren't that interested in a pool.

there's definitely a demand for another gym, and as deyey says, it doesn't take much maintenance.
Don't know about Flyefit, but I'm with Anytime Fitness, and you just have a fob to open the door all day. Staff there from about 7am until 10pm, and you're on your own after that.

Lots of people on shift work between Intel and multiple pharma companies within driving distance of Maynooth (plus the big new data centres over near Clonee too), and the Glenroyal opening hours are pretty restrictive, especially at the weekends. The weights section in the Glenroyal is stupidly busy most of the time, especially when the college is back.

e: although I'd imagine Intel and a few of those companies have on-site gyms, but this might be more convenient for some people.

e2: actually just remembered, Anytime Fitness opened a branch in Clondalkin recently, and the blurb says they'll be opening one in Kildare in the coming months: https://extra.ie/2019/08/22/business/irish/anytime-fitness-to-open-third-irish-gym-in-clondalkin-with-two-more-to-come

afaik the onsite gym in Intel is only for blue badges - Intel employees. Contractors can't use it. And they comprise a significant proportion of workers there.

About time! Huge demand for any kind of a decent gym in the town.

Looks likely to be this chain: https://www.anytimefitness.co.uk/find-gym/

Interesting. A 24 hour gym would do well in a Uni town.

File number 19933 for Anytime Fitness, says application has been withdrawn?

Planning app in for more cafe units at Tesco; no docs up yet so not sure if its replacing the previous one for a single cafe unit.

There have been rumours for quite a while of Eddie Rockets and/or KFC wanting to open there.

    My poor wallet and/or waistline

Don't even particularly like either of them but their presence when busy/late/tired would be disruptive!

What has happened with Express Fix at the corner of Leinster Street and Mill Street? Gone for good?

There's construction work on the house beside Ely currently but there is no active planning for the site as far as I can see

Some beauty related thing is going in to what was Bella Baby and there were also builders poking around the unit that had the gym planning. Only reason I can think that was pulled was they realised it didn't need change of use but I can't easily find the old planning docs to see if there was meant to be a gym there or not

Occasions hairdressers who were over in the run of shops where the fruit & veg shop is have taken over the Bella Baby unit and expanding to do nails and make up as well as hair

Hopefully something takes their old unit quickly as any reduction in traffic along the old shops is bad for the remaining retailers. I think that unit may have been a hairdresser since day 1 of the centre being built, The Beehive or something like that was the original name.

Two relatively small units replacing some parking spaces opposite O'Briens and the previous proposed site beside it.

You'd fit a Rockets in one but not a full Eddie Rockets I guess.

Probably for the best really :D

Rockets is awful so yes, that would be a solid advantage in stopping me going there.

Your bowels and your wallet will be saved by not going there

Gym planning back in, this time Tesco (as centre owners) applying rather than the gym operators.
