Its called a part 4 tenancy. Notice periods outlined here: http://www.citizensinformation.ie/en/housing/renting_a_home/types_of_tenancy.html

it only becomes part 4 after 6 months.

True. Prior to 6 months you have no lease, but the landlord must still give you a months notice afaik.
