What Style of Restaurant would people like to see in Drogheda?

    In my opinion, Drogheda's restaurant selection is sorely lacking in variety. Chippers, Chinese, Indian, Cafe's and Pub Grub abound but where's the variety?

    Me? I'd like to see a BBQ place, a Sushi/Japanese restaurant, a good pizza parlour, Mexican food, and a good Burger joint.

    I've had enough of the ubiquitous panini, veg soup and lasagna establishment.

    What kind of places would people like to see open in Drogheda?

    Anything with a decent salad bar would be nice!

    I work in Dublin and used to love having lunch in the Peacock Theatre - there was a great variety of salad items, ranging from grated carrot to bulgar wheat, couscous, chick peas, potato salad, etc etc. I'd love to have that sort of choice for a dinner menu (or a weekend lunch/brunch).

    The optamist in me would love to see a wider variety of dining experiences.

    The realist in me says if there was a market for them, we wouldn't be seeing restraunts shutting down every second week and they'd already be in the town :(

    I'm not so sure about that. I think restaurants are closing down in town for obvious reasons. Poor product, poor locations, poor pricing, poor setting, poor service, etc..

    If something new and exciting were to come into town, I think there would be a market for it. Take the Eastern Seaboard for example. It's the only place in town with a bit of buzz about it and in my opinion the food isn't even that good but they do the basics well.

    There's a gap there for something. I'd love to go out on a Friday night to have a few tacos and a couple of mexican beers or something like that.

    or what about a pulled pork sandwich, some brisket or some BBQ ribs or something?

    I would agree with all of that. Except the Eastern Seaboard, I love the food in that place. But the town could do with more variations in restaurants

    A good Greek or mediterranean style restaurant serving regional dishes would be nice, with decent wine and regional beers instead of the usual watery american style beers.

    I miss the old Redz tex-mex as well.

    I used to go there quiet often, it did not get that many customers tbh. The food was good and the views out over the town from millmount were spectacular, The problem was that many customers would come up for the location but would not try the food out, all they would eat was steak and chips or whatever type of spud that was on offer. People are very conservative and wont take a chance trying out different cuisines.

    I knew a chef in another restaurant who was frustrated by the lack of general interest by people not trying out different foods, he loved to cook different dishes and show off his culinary skills, but all everyone ate mostly was steak & chips, with a sweet wine to drink.

    Prehaps the best restaurant to open would be a Meat and 2 veg and a spud of your choice, type of place :(

    Dont disagree with your experience but i think people are very open to different foods in the town , at least lots i know are . Some of the indian places are doing very well .

    It amazes me how badly some restaurants place themselves in the town. A prominant location is so important these days and I have no doubt that pink elephant and rupee have sufferred because of this.

    Any restaurant could work with good placement and marketing.

    rupee/indus used to be above eastern sea board and used to advertise frequently in all the local news papers, their food was great also dont really know what went wrong for them.

    I know what went wrong with Indus - prices. And quantity. I could be very wrong in saying this but restaurants make or break with the first impression and recommendations / word of mouth. Indus opened with prices so high and portions so small, it's as if they were some chick specialist restaurant, but the seasoned Droghedean clientele were probably a bit more value minded.

    Now why lemongrass tanked in that exact location - that I really don't know! They were good, prices expensive but not overly so. Yet they failed while Eastern Seaboard thrives. PS: Surely it's not the two flight of stairs? :D

    I often thought the exact same thing about those stairs.:)
    lemongrass was great. I heard they left not because they were doing bad but because there may have been some sort of conflict between owner and management all hearsay of course.

    I always left indus stuffed, the portions may not have looked like much but there was always more than enough i thought and for more than a year before they went bust there was always great deals. But i see where your coming from, it takes very little for people to be put off a place. If they even think they hear someone give a half negative comment they will never go.

    Wasn't Lemongrass a franchise?
    There were a few Lemongrass restaurants around the country but they are all gone now that the parent company went bust.
    Apparently the food was supplied vacuum packed and pre-prepared and just had to be cooked/heated up by the chefs.

    I doubt it as it was an open kitchen where you could see the food being prepared.

    There used to be a sushi place where noodle box is now. I gave it a go when it was just opened. Turns out I dont like raw fish. :pac:

    BUT! They did do they best taco chips id ever tasted.

    I went to that lemon grass and ordered up some fish ( cant remember what it was , but a warm water species what I had before when I was on holidays ) I was looking forward to it as It was a good size and delicious.
    When it came up to the table I was shocked as it was in square cut chunks and not many of them :( I was expecting a full fish with it,s head and tail over the edges of the plate, like I had before. It came with some fragrant rice and some spring onions and a coconutty sauce. I paid € 26 for that.........I felt cheated........€26 for a few chunks of fish.........Rip off !

    All the fish was frozen and vacuum packed and cooked in the restaurant kitchen in front of you by a thai chef. The lemon grass was modern and trendy and food was tasty but small portions and high prices put me off going back again. :(
