Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Better off people 'more likely to lie and cheat' study finds

MEMBERS of the so-called upper classes are more likely to lie, cheat and even break the law than people from less privileged backgrounds, a study has found.
In contrast, members of the "lower" classes appeared more likely to display the traditional attributes of a gentleman.

It suggests that the traditional notion of the upper class “cad” or “bounder” could have a scientific basis.

But psychologists at the University of California in Berkeley, who carried out the study, also suggested that the findings could help explain the origins of the banking crisis – with self-confident, wealthy bankers more likely to indulge in reckless behaviour.

No need for a scientific study I ,we found this out the hard way a few years ago.

how do you think they got to be "upper class" in the first place?

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Makes sense: to get to a privileged position you'll more than likely have to step on a few toes, and being in such a position often gives one a sense of being above the law.

I remember reading about some scientific studies where people who were simply told to imagine being rich and powerful were more likely to cheat in tests they were given.

But the most pressing issue is: could this mean the end of welfare cheat threads!!

Is researching a dictionary a waste of time, too?

    HEYOOOOHHHHH.

It's not a waste of time and you are jumping to a false conclusion: the study simply finds that upper class people are more likely to lie and cheat, not that every upper class person does this. It also doesn't positively identify any causation.

It's similar to the study which found that CEOs are more likely to be psychopaths than other people.

I wouldn't imagine that programme is a fair reflection of society....

They're the people who become better off after money's thrown at them for carrying out research. Their ultimate aim is to lie and cheat, just like the other better off people.
